Submitted by Tchampney on Wed, 2013-05-08 22:14
Hey all new to site and this is my first post. I recently purchased a 16ft ally dinghy with a 40hp yamaha enduro on the back. Looking to head out cockburn sound Friday to d9 and was wondering if any1 could give me an idea of how rough it would be there blowing 20knots westerly? Cheers tim

I thought it might not have
I thought it might not have been as bad as its a westerly and might have protected it a bit. What winds at most could you hit the sound in? Thanks for the reply

15 Kn tops
don't forget with a wind forecast you can get gusts upto 40% higher than the forecast in a 16 tinnie thats going to push the limits of safety, you have to ask yourself just how bad do you need a feed of fish and is the exercise worth your life

you have got that right
i have a son who is a FIFO worker and he is one very unhappy lad at the moment so I understand how you are feeling keep watching FW reports after the blow to see just how people went it will be very interesting i think. the beach down my way (falcon) is almost gone and what is left was covered with bits of broken up cray pots this morning

Saturday morning current forecast not looking the best at the moment (things can change quickly)!!!
Not the most comfortable winds to be fishing in a big tinny but keep an eye on the forecast .......as for fishing D9 check out the previous thread/link;

Rough. You can be in the lee
Rough. You can be in the lee of GI...but you got to get there first and the sound is quite wide.
Last time we went out in 20-25kt wind swinging SE to S to SW it was short sharp chop that could be capsize territory for a tinnie.
