Competent Perth Radar - NOT
Submitted by slugger on Thu, 2014-03-13 08:17
From 6.30am this morning, was apparently pissing down at our place for about an hour, radar even had speckles of yellow in it. Yet all we actually got was a couple of drops that didnt even dirty the windscreen.
Good to see the recent Millions the state upgrading this have delivered us reliable, effective modern technology.

Where do you live, yanchep? .
Where do you live, yanchep? . If yes, you can tell its a false reading because it wasn't moving south east like the rest of it it was stationary. Sometimes you see the whole pilbara looking like its raining but its not. Not sure what causes it, high humidy or temperature inversion who knows.

?? Verga rainfall
I think that is what it is called - evaporates before it reaches the ground - supposedly a common phenomenon in Oz

Bingo!
Verga is rain not reaching the ground. You can see it precipitating out of a cloud but not reaching the ground. The Perth Serpentine radar is at a elevated site and looks from 0 degrees to about 3 degrees above the horizon when it does a scan. On days like today and yesterday verga appears as precipitation (it is really) but it doesn't reach the ground. The radar is right, it's just not looking at ground level but several hundred to thousand feet off the ground.
