Coral bay
Gday guys.
Just got back from a coral bay trip a few weeks ago and thought i should throw up a quick report for anyone interested.
We are lucky enough that we get a couple of trips up there each year, and at short notice we tend to be able to pick some good weather.
This year was no different.
With the new demersal limits we were much more choosy on what we kept, but still managed to knock over our limits very easily in a couple of days. Which left us with a few solid days at the pubs inbetween.
Sharks are same same as every year. Aslong as you do a few miles to get away from the passages there arent too many dramas and we only lost a handful of fish for the trip.
As usual we tried not to fish any spots from the previous trips, and all fish came off new grounds which probably also helps with the biteys.
We found the reds were fishing alot better out north, but the goldies were on fire south.
We didnt get alot of photos as normal lol. But my mate knocked up this little video of one of the days, hopefully the link works.
Fuel prices were up there but its a holiday so who cares.
Cheers
Hodgy

Not that it looked like he
Not that it looked like he needed it out there. That bloke who fell overboard chasing his Gopro a few years ago would have liked one!

Well done. Some nice fish there. The goldies are a tasty feed . I would rate them better than reds . Looks like you had some great weather

Interesting you fish so deep
Interesting you fish so deep for the reds and goldband. Is that mostly to get away from the sharks, or is it challenging to get fish in shallower depths because the area is a tourist hotspot.
Never fished out of Coral Bay or Exmouth, so have no idea on what sorts of depths to start fishing.
Great vid by the way. Very chill :)

Yeah sharks mainly.Shitloads
Yeah sharks mainly.
Shitloads of reds under 70m, but yeah. Sharks can be a pain in the ass.
With the goldies we dont tend to have many shark problems, i just prefer to fish deeper. Seem to get better quality fish and less bycatch.
