However, they are rarely open. My understanding is they don't take calls unless they are open... the dive shop then takes over after they shut for the day but the staff there were a clueless when we asked them. It was difficult to work out when I was there a few weeks ago. The phone numbers on the DOT brochure has a poor guys mobile number who isn't involved. I called that and he has been getting calls for 15 years! Gave it a miss in the end as I didn't have confidence it would function as intended and relied on family on shore, Epirbs and 16 emergency.
Interested to hear how you go.
Hopefully I am wrong and missed something. Done well, VMR is a great service and hats off to those who do it.
Yes its a shame there isn't a better system up there as it's so busy with tourists out on the water in what can be some fairly dangerous water at times. We have tried to leave our details with Mahi office as we were told that was the go only to be told by a girl there they dont take them and gave the impression you just call if you get in to trouble.
Not sure if its any different there now but doesnt sound like it... Used to be a caravan on the beach back in the older days that seeemed to work better.
