Hey Guys
This is my first post and i would like to say gday, look forward to getting to know some of you.
Anyway, I am going to Coral Bay on th 26th December for about 10 days. I have never been there before and really need some advice on:
Were abouts to fish (no secret spots just a starting piont)?
What to expect in terms of fish?
What rods/reels,lures etc. to take up there?
And any other advice on coral bay.
I will be landbased only because our boat won't be ready in time and i was hoping for light tackle fun with lures. I aslo really want to get a spanglie on a lure.
Thanks heaps guys
Blake

4wd
G'day Blake,
Welcome to fishwrecked. Are you taking a 4wd? The best landbased spot is probably 5 fingers, which is south of the new boat ramp but requires a 4by.
If not, you can fish at the new Coral Bay boat ramp for spanglies and squid and the occasional queenfish. Never really know whats passing by there. I'd give Mauds landing a miss, they do get the occasional small shark there but its very hit and miss.
Cheers,
Adam

I've had some unreal land
I've had some unreal land based sessions on spanglies just outside the sanctuary zone. We usually go to mauds to catch some sand whiting on the light stuff then use them for livies at the other spot, spanglies find them irresistable.

Bloody hell, 3 replies in a 1/2 hour, you don't get that on other forums.
Adam, We aren't taking a 4by, but my uncle is so we should be able to use it. How should i fish 5 fingers?
Jay, thanks mate, i'll keep that in mind.
Sherbet, i am a bit young to have a beer or six (only 15) , but thanks anyway.
Thanks guys
Blake
P.S. Are you allowed to fish of the rocks at the boat ramp.

Soft plastics or bait
You can fish 5 fingers with soft plastics or bait. You can go a fair way down the track before it starts to get boggy at the first sand dune. Just have to let your tyres down to about 24 pound. Best to get a map at the Calm office and ask for some tips on how to get in there as its hard to describe over the net.
Another worth while drive is to go down to Waroorra station and the 14 mile camp and do some exploring around there. They will also have a mud map at the Calm office. Theres quite a few spots around there that produce good sized spanglies and even if you don't get any fish, the colour of the water is sensational.
