Wind

As Matt said, wind will be your worst enemy. It starts blowing from the ESE turning SW at 20-25 knots nearly every day from the start of September through till the end of March so if it drops enough to get out take it, don't say I'll go tomorrow because more often than not it will be blowing again.

if you can get out

trawling the back of the reef you can catch some good pelagics! if you get outside the no fish zone on the inside of the reef and find a nice coraly lump there are plenty of north west snapper and red throat otherwise if the weather is really good head to the fifty metre mark and look for some good marks for red emporer etc etc

Head to the South passage

Thu, 2010-12-02 16:29

Head to the South passage and fish inside the reef for Spanglies, be very careful if you head out to the outer side of the reef as it has a big washing machine effect through that passage. Use the leads or better still go to the North passage.

Like Carnarvonite said, the wind is your enemy.

But you can still catch fish inside the reef

Agree with that, especially when you weigh up the logistics of getting your boat up there, etc.

No,  due back in the Bay

Thu, 2010-12-02 18:55

No,  due back in the Bay early next week for about five weeks, before going down to Geraldton to put in a new motor,  then back up to Exmouth for a few Monties trips, AIBT and GAMEX,  before going back to the Bay at the beginning of April for the season down there.

Fishwhispers, i have been up there a few times and take my word for it, The Mahi Mahi 2 is the best run charter operator up there.
