thatll be shit for the charter and dive boats there.... as well as the thousands of tourists. Cant see it closing from not making $$. Wonder what the story is
just had a long conversation with a mate there, theres no real info on why but when the old school businesses meet the new age beaurocracy theres usually problems.
Theres a fuel dump at the airstrip which we used to use, fuel company drops 44's there or fills the bunker trailers.
I've never been to Coral bay, My first trip is in a couple of weeks, and I know this shouldn't interfere with this trip, but for subsequent trips.. What if the servo does close, what are the alternatives ??
I was there in May and I heard they had recently had to spend a lot of money [something like 30k from memory] to test the dirt around their tanks and apparently there was no problem.
I was talking to Norm Monck who is one of the owners of peoples park and he told me he hoped to have a new servo up and running by may next year. When I was there the carnarvon shire were there to sign off on it.It is going on the corner where you turn off to the ramp opposite the school. He said it will have a secure parking area for boats for people staying at the Peoples park.
last i heard was they are going to close the beach side rd. All the park entrances will be from behind e.g boat ramp side maybe this is the start of the change ?
Yea we're up here till the 23rd dont have to be back at work till the 1st so might extend another week if weather is up to it or else we'll follow the weather to where it isn't blowing. So might catch ya if we stay on. Not missing much at the moment lots of wind the last couple of days, had a few good windows though.
basically the owners have been 'rogered' by a state govt land agency
this is not their fault , hence the last sentence in the sign above
the state wanted to facilitate a relocation, with incentives, which in the end were basically none
they expected the current owners to close current site, pay for any remediation costs, buy new site at market value ( which the state increased by 50% ) at the last minute, plus pay for the scheme services to get to the front door, plus pay the $2.0m + for a new servo - and they called that an incentive ??
all this taking close to 10 years, so bottom line is, current owners ran out of puff and last minute price increase was final straw
write to brendon grylls ,( whose office is aware of this debacle, but did bugger all to assist or help,) and get stuck in
The conspiracy theorist in me things there might be some sneaky backscratching going on by a large servo chain who wants to take over the supply in C-Bay.
1- Get rid of existing servo.
2- Build new (and only) servo in town.
3- $$$$$$$$
Well it may not be big business, but I'm sure that SOMEONE is behind this squeeze out and they will benefit from the new opportunity to open a servo there!
Ill be up there in may next year for 2 weeks hope there is a servo will need to fill the boat up or there be a lot of jerry cans going and running to exmouth every 3 days or 4 days

Coral bay fuel
Found this article on the Web, hope its true. Planning a trip for end of April
Posted 8/1/2014
A special license has been granted to the owner of Coral Bay's sole fuel station so it can continue trading past its expected closure date.
Last year, the Department of Mines and Petroleum directed owner Norm Monck to upgrade the facility's aging fuel tanks.
Mr Monck decided it would not be financially viable to do so and announced he would pack up shop by February.
The Shire of Carnarvon has committed to setting up a self serve temporary station until a more permanent option is established.
Shire President, Karl Brandenburg says an extraordinary licence will allow Mr Monck to continue trading until the temporary station is constructed.
“The temporary one will be pretty much straight away,”
“That could happen now if we could find some people that want to take it up.
“What we've asked the Department of Lands to do is to allow a three year temporary license.
“A service station in a remote area like Coral Bay could probably take about two years to get built and constructed.

The old sevo will remain open
The old sevo will remain open unitil the temp one is up and running.
Tenders for the tem servo shut lats week and it should be awarded any day now.
Word is that one of the big names that allreday have a fuel run will get it (Caltex/BP).
It is all meant to happen very quickly, wich is not how things normally happen up here.
There where plans in place for a complete roadhouse but the govermet/shire made that all to hard.
Its a shame because it is one Coral Bay really needs, now we will have to settle with a tem setup for who knows how long.
The commercial fast flow bowser will be going also.
I'm not looking forward to paying full price on a slow flowing pump with people lined up behind me when I go to refuel my 1500L tanks.
