Could be a good year crabbing in Mandurah

Gudday fellow fishers,
This is my first post, so please excuse any mistakes. Should be a good year for crabbing in the Peel and Harvey Estuaries this year due to the hotter than normal start to summer. The cooked crabs I got only took 2 hours and the old man took home six uncooked ones for Christmas and the crab with the gauge on it I got along with another 19 which was four days later, only took a couple of hours as well, which was also just before Christmas, but it would be copping a hiding at the moment. But the new bag limits that where brought in, I believe will help the industry.

Nice haul
We started off slow on Christmas day (only 2) but yesterday the boy and his mates got 9, so things are looking up.
That's a monster you've got there.....I think you need a bigger gauge!!

Well done Gardie...we tried
Well done Gardie...we tried two spots yesterday scooping/snorkling for 13 in 4 hrs...last spot was Boggy Bay where I seen this asian bloke just take every crab he could get hold of... all way undersized...I ripped into him telling him its not on and I would ring fisheries...he shot thru then...I was too far out to get his rego...geez I was pissed off...majority of us do the righty and these mongrels just couldn't give a rats and strip the grounds bare...

We got our 20 yesterday
We got our 20 yesterday scooping . There was four of us (two of us caught about 18 of them though) and we had our bag in just over an hour. If you can find a good spot, then you'll have no dramas getting a few.

Nah! Down Dawesville way.
Nah! Down Dawesville way. No real big ones but a few were about 10mm over. They aren't very full either like the metro ones are. Dad's boat is buggered now too so no more crabs for a while for us. The voltage regulator looks like it's pooped itself pumping out 16 volts. Arrgh!

Good bag there too Gardie and
Good bag there too Gardie and welcome to the site. I'm not sure how much longer the crabbing can last in the Peel region? There are masses of boats out there everytime we go out. I've never seen the Port Bouvard marina carpark so full before. I hope the limits are enough?

Good Haul
We hit the Dawesville / Mandurah area Boxing day for an overnighter. We picked up 8 size over night, and lost count at 46 undersize, most were just undersized. Surprised at the amount of berried females, and some rather small ones at that. What did really tick me off was the catch care being displayed by others around. You hear a kid yell out yahhh we got one... dad measures and then you see it fly 15 feet in the air before hitting the water. The amount that we pulled that were undersize and already missing claws, legs was incredible.
Those that want to 'rape the reef' need to have good hard long look at themselves. One day it might just be me in some dive kit putting a hole in the bottom of their boat.
It looks like it may well be a good season.
cheers

definetly looks like a good
definetly looks like a good season ahead of us.
my dad and me have been doing well scooping.
got out bag limit on most occassions.
although there were a couple of people that wernt to happy with me when i started gauging out there FULL bucket of crabs right in front of them.
I counted 18 undersize crabs that went back in the water and 3 that were size. i gave them a stern talking to but i really dont think it would of made a differance because they would of probly been back there the next doing doing the exact same thing.
it pisses me off when we all try so hard to do the right thing only to look over your shoulder and see people putting everything that moves in there buckets. I really hope the fisheries pick up there game and actually get out there and police all these new rules and regulations.

Maybe fisheries need a small boat with lots of signage and just cruise the estuary. Just being at the ramps may not be enough.
If they are seen out on the water, it may be a reminder to do the right thing.

I just hit the Pinjara area
I just hit the Pinjara area tonight after my mate had a good night yesterday. Took him 45 minutes to get his 10 last night, and three of us another hour to catch 25 more legal ones tonight. Good feed all around. Good season it seems.
