ive recently heard that blowies make great crab bait. in my opinion, blowies are poisonous to us and if the crabs eat em, there has to be toxins past through the crabs. what are your opinions?

I reckon both calls are BS
I reckon both calls are BS mate. Blowies are king scavengers. Sure crabs are too, but I reckon blowies would eat their own kids given the chance (if fact mnost fish prob do). Then even if you did use em as bait u would pull your pots every 10-15mins so min chance of them chowing much poison?!?
better off just buying some known baits - but hey trying to find a "use" for these little %^$KERS is a very honerable task.
well done,

blowies!
I've heard the same by someone but i'll pass on the blowies....well using the toadys as bait that is :)
They dont smell or give off an oil scent like mullet or give off blood like spleen so there's certainly alot better bait thats for sure!

Just catch
Been putting shade cloth in my bait baskets down at mandurah..helps your bait last longer..i have never seen so many blowies down at Mandurah than at the moment. I felt like a whale the other day being followed by its calfs. I was snorkelling for crabs.... turned around and there is about 50 blowies following me!

Blowies in Tailor
I've often wondered about poison transferral. I opened up a tailors gut about 4 years ago up at Horrocks and found a blowie inside; I ate the tailor and am still here today.
I wonder if blowies are a regular part of other fishes diet or if that little fella was victim to a tailor feeding frenzy, and if that was the case, would the tailor have been poisoned as it digested the blowie?
Is there any scientific answers?

Blowies For Crab Bait
I've used Blowfish for Crab bait many years ago when I was a young lad I would put my nets off the Bunbury Wharf sometimes I would catch Blowies in the nets so I would keep these if I was short on bait and use them later in the day I also caught and used Trumpeters all worked well as bait I would cut into them with a knife to expose the flesh and guts. My family ate the Crabs none of us got sick.
Cheers Kev
