Cubing up

Planing on heading out tomorrow to start learning how to find good ground and see if i can't raise up a pinky or at least a few nice skippy on light gear.

I've got some herring my nanna gave me in the freezer so would that work as well as mulies for laying out a trail of cubes and would a fillet of said herring work well to drift in the cube trail? I'm also going to try for some squid on the way out too.

 Cubes should work, maybe try

Cubes should work, maybe try mashing them up a bit, I find it gets a bit more action.

As for baits, herring fillets should work but if there's pickers around whole herring may be a better choice.

Best of luck, we're heading out from Hillarys tomorrow fairly early

Cool, might see you out there. Come say hi if you see us, green/white 14ft northshore.

We'll probably hit the 3 mile and burley then a bit of a troll is possibly on the cards

Should be ok Jack, I actually like using big chunks of fresh herring for bait when chasing pinkies, they love the stuff.

Nice, we bounced around

Mon, 2015-09-28 17:17

Nice, we bounced around between little Island and behind the 3 mile the whole morning, bagged a few whiting, skippy and got blown away by big sambos in 8m of water before heading in and finishing off with a few snook and herring.

Wish I could consistently catch KGW, love eating em.

Next time mate I'd use the herring for bait, as either whole or butterflied or filleted, which ever you prefer. And for the cubes use mulies, much better for a cube/burley trail, heaps of oil in them, every fish loves a good mulie burley trail.

Also if possible head out behind the breaking reef on to the 3 mile and anchor and burley there, in with a much better chance of pinkies, also dhuies, sambos and skippy. If you need more help pm me and I'll point you in the right direction
