If you go this way, fit an EGT guage.

The power has to come from somewhere. In a diesel, easy power running more fuel. Turbo needs to be efficient enough to balance this out with more boost (not sure how big the turbos are on these nissans).

Another thing to be aware of is that you drop this 4WD off to have the chip fitted, they do the standard install that has the car running like a dream at road going weight, but then you add something heavy to the back of it and try and drive it with the new power (read more fuel) you could actually be cooking it up hills. $$$

EGT guage will be money well spent and tell you when to lighten the right foot. Fit the probe Pre-Turbo. Auberins do a good digital unit that updates realtime. I find mine great.

Larger exhaust is a waste of time unless you change the turbo dump pipe at same time to the same inner diameter. That 1st third of the exhaust helps to get the extra heat out the backside. Not changing the dump pipe does not allow this process to be as efficient as it could be.

I am not diesel mech but have turboed my 80 Series 1HZ and drive by my pyro guage. Engine is 345,000km young and has been turboed from 300,000km.

Can't fit a chip to my car, its all "tractor tech".

Cheers,

D80

 fitting chips/exhausts is

fitting chips/exhausts is quite common but be aware that at least one of the larger chip manufacturers  (Chipit) has gone bust.

Safari (ARB) Dtronics are also no longer sold for whatever reason.

Most CRD chips work on increasing the pressure in the fuel rail which pushes extra fuel thru with the same injection duration. Older ones like in the 1HD-FTE increase the duration I believe?

Whether this causes extra strain/wear on the fuel system itself (as well as all other running gear) is up to the buyer to decide but just remember there is very little recourse if a mechanical failure results, no matter what the seller says.
