D9 Today

Headed to D9 this morning at dawn with Mattacus.

Conditions this morning after the pre-dawn showers was beautiful on the water.

As we turned up to the D9 looking for the barge we could actually see the pinkies swimming around.

Anchored and burleyed up. Snapper were interested in the burley but wouldn't take a bait (Squid and Pilch) or a jig.
I'm new to jigging and the chances are I wasn't doing it well but they'd investigate the jig a few times and leave it alone

Frustrating we couldnt get one on the hook but was great to be out there and see them.

I'm very much a beginner with soft plastics

What sort of soft plastic and rig would you use for that?

And what style? jerking them slowly to the top?

Hahaha thanks Vin,

I'll look into it anyway, nice to have different styles to fall back on in situations like today

Very tempted to hit the water at 5am tomorrow for a few hours before the weather picks up

 What size baits were you

Wed, 2013-08-28 19:41

What size baits were you using?

When the pinks are like that we use a 4/0 hook tied to the end of a 20lb leader, no sinker with a whole shelled prawn tail.

Just float it down your burley trail, works most times.

Using 5/0 with squid and then tried 3/0 gangs with a pilch and no weight to float down the trail

Great advice i'll definately keep that one in mind, makes sense

 yup as said

Wed, 2013-08-28 20:15

yup as said above....sometimes they obly want a snack and not a meal so to speak...if your cubing mulies for berley stick a single unweighted hook through it and drop it down....if your only using plastics and they wont take à 5 to 7 inch plastic throw on a a 2 inch grub and you should be able to temp them :)

Mr white may have been hanging around, that would stop them feeding.

Dont use gangs, snell 2 5/0 or 6/0 no sinker.

We normaly fish 4-6 rods, different baits on each till we find what their taking.

sounds like we have an early season.

May just give them a nudge next week

thinking the same thing

thinking the same thing Walfootrot - im hanging to get out there and give them a crack myself next week once the weather is better.

find that gangs do fine, just upgrade the hooks or make them yourself so they are stronger.

It was clear enough to see

Thu, 2013-08-29 08:02

It was clear enough to see the wreck in the morning, and after the thread about the sharks there trust me I was looking for a big Noah but never saw a sign of one

Would love a boomstick for situations if one did start biting the boat, but i'm probably just being paranoid and the Greens would cry bloody murder anyway

The Weather sites are forecasting a possible morning fish on Monday.

I'll keep checking over the weekend and i'll probably look for a Deckie if it's go

 Should have kept the berley

Thu, 2013-08-29 11:17

Should have kept the berley in the boat, sometimes they will lock onto the berley and not feed on your larger offerings.

Kept the burley in a basket

Thu, 2013-08-29 14:43

Kept the burley in a basket so there was no chunks for them to eat, but thanks for the heads up

Bought a selection of Soft baits and some smaller hooks to drift small offerings down
