daiwa Sensor Surf

 Hi all,

So I've decided to treat myself and get a good surf rod to match a Penn Spinfisher 750 spooled with 30lb Sunline Super Pe braid recently bought. I've narrowed it down to the Daiwa Sensor Surf after thinking past the Penn Prevail series after some average feedback. Can anybody share their experience/review of these rods & possibly if I've missed any other brands offering similar? I''ll be targeting mullaway off the sand, will fish for tailor, salmon, small sharks, etc with it as well- I'll be striving for distance, throwing out livies & reasonably heavy paternoster rigs, won't be spinning at all and am looking at buying a 13/14ft model.

Cheers.

Sensor surf

I have the 13 ft sensor matched with a lc big baitrunner and its a behemoth of a combo, way too big for what you want and probably unmatched to the reel in size. For what you are targeting and the size of the reel you have already I would think the 12 ft sensor surf would be enough. I also have a 12ft penn prevail and think its great, even casts further. Can't think what the negative comments would be?

One other to look at is the pflueger crank in the 12 foot version medium heavy!

hope this helps

Hey mate. Have the 13ft spin

Hey mate. Have the 13ft spin myself, bought it around 4 years ago and its my favourite beach rod! Casts a 4 ounce sinker and mulie easily and a good distance. Think its rated 4-6 ounces 20-40lb. I use ygk 30lb wx4 which helps the casting distance. Can get a bit heavy after a while,a mate has the 12ft spin and casts just as far as i do but its a bit easier to hold onto for a long period of time. Both of us catch tailor, mullys and 1m + bronzies with them. Havent used the 14ft so cant offer any advice on that. Grab one this weekend with the bluewater sale bud and save some coin

Awesome guys.Nightfish I'm

Awesome guys.

Nightfish I'm pretty new to the WA fishing scene but an older angler from the surf casting club I've just joined reckons the top 3rd of the Penn Prevail just doesn't 'action' the way he'd want for distance casting, maybe too slow I think he said. But if you disagree I'll have a good look at em still today at Bluewater, along with the Pflueger Crank, can't hurt to hold all three and see how they feel.

That's exactly the kind of experiences/responses I was after guys, much appreciated.

 Ended up going the Pflueger

Sat, 2014-06-14 16:28

Ended up going the Pflueger Crank 12ft med/hvy, Bluewater were pretty average in service/range & price- had no daiwa sensor surfs rods in any store over 12ft, which was fairly average I thought, and had no thought in ordering me one either, weren't interested in helping me find an alternative surf rod in-store even though the manager had said they were particularly quiet for such a big sale.

So went down to Getaway Balcatta where they always do the right thing in helping me out, after a good chat to the manager there he has ordered me one from Pflueger and got it for $119 as the new model is due out in 10weeks, which was cheaper than Bluewater anyway. I'll give the 12footer a good run & decide if I need something longer down the track.

yeah i had a look this morning, no sensor surfs over 10ft in a few of the stores. . . Does seem a bit suss. Looks like they thought very carefully about the rods on the racks. . . .although i did grab a sustain fg 5000 for 279 down from 349 so can't complain. mindarie has a few samurai reactions for 250 if anyone is after one . Getaway Balcatta have always had good prices and great service

Yep agreed, thought was pretty average form to not put the whole range out to buy. Ah well their loss and agreed just keeps me loyal to my local Getaway where they do a great job keeping the customer happy. Nice one getting a quality reel at a great price.
