A day of firsts

Hi guys
Got out today with Matt (a mate of mine) in the short weather window and although we didn't get anything worth bragging about, we did crack a few firsts.
My first baldie (~25cm)
My first Hammerhead (~1.3m)
40cm pinky on the pen rod, put up a decent fight
My first Emperor, called it for a spangly at first but think it's a Red Throat (had a red throat )
All of these were taken chasing skippy on the 3 mile, think we've found a spot worth fishing at prime times when the ban's over
Also got to test out my new Lethal 100 on a few rays (piece of cake) since nothing else was biting
Cheers

Nice mate
My mate seen a HH bout that size the other day out from there, you may have nailed him, top work! That could be a spango? Mate got one last weekend near rotto, wowzers! Plenty to brag about!
I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Spango
Nice haul mate. Unless the red throat looks a lot different due to being south I would definitely say that's a spango! Red throat generally have a red outline to their lips and red dorsal and tail fins. Impressive catch this far south that's for sure.

I haven't caught enough
I haven't caught enough spanglies to know about the red mouth (bring on exy next April!) but as you said the blue lines on the face are a dead give away.
Did it go hard like they are notorious for doing so?

Yep, some other names include
grassy sweetlip(QLD) or Tricky snapper(NT) but not a red throat or spangly. totally different. Good going BTW. Would have been a great lil sesh..

Spot on Carnarvonite
I am certain thats a blue lined snapper, aka Black snapper. But even that being caught down here is impressive. It is easy to get the 2 confused, but blue lines around the eye is the key, aswell as the blotches on the body..

Nice fish mate, but I
Nice fish mate, but I disagree with the bluelined call, looks more like a blue spotted emperor, have a look at the identifying emperors pamphlet on the fisheries website

Blue Lined
For me the blotches on the body and white speckles on the face seem to be the defining factor for this fish. On Fishwreckapedia it says that on blue lined emperor the blue lines "do not extend right down the cheek like the spangled emperor" but on this fish they seem to extend down the face? Everything else about this fish definitely lines up with a blue lined emperor though.

Cheers guys, could it be a cross breed? The blue "stripes" were a lot mote vibrant when it first came out of the water and dulled after about 15 seconds (fright colours I think).

many of these not to know
many of these not to know that's a blue lined emperor. i tell from the tail patterns and that hint of red in the tail and throat at times. 32cm mate or more and she's a keeper. Bloody good on the chew too when fresh.
