DazSamFishing's Farewell Fish - Deep Drop Gold

A few years ago I met DazSamFishing on Fishwrecked, he was into jigging, me and TimVB wanted to get into jigging, so we invited Daz out for a days fishing. We got along pretty well and Daz is now a bloody good mate! I have learnt a heap about fishing from this bloke, and we have had some truly memorable fishing trips metro, intrastate and overseas.

Unfortunately Daz is heading back to the land of slow talkers (QLD) with his better half Sam (a girl…..) so me and my deckie TimVB got him out for one last fish on the Whaler before he heads off…..and what a memorable day it was…….we are gonna miss you dude, I think you’re gonna miss Perth as well!

A quick jig on the way out on some new ground resulted in a nice dhu to Tim.. Me and Daz “released” the dhu, not entirely with Tims approval, it swam off happy as Larry, and I think it gave us some good karma for what was to come……

Calm conditions greeted us in the depths and after a bit of scouting around, fish were located and down went the gear. Daz was on first, nothing huge, but up came a primo flathead….not sure what model but it looked delicious!

A few nanny’s were landed then came a few rat grey bands to the skipper and Tim suggesting we were in the right territory.

Next drop Daz is on. Hit like a train and after a great battle on full manual wind, Daz lands his first Grey Band Cod. Top effort mate!

My last fishing trip with Daz in Perth....what a day!

Next drop Tim is on big time. Either Tim is a lot weaker than Daz (tick) or this fish was a LOT bigger than Daz’s (tick). After manually fighting the beast for 20 minutes and a lot of sweat and puffing, Tim checks the meters to go…..200……….before Tim has time to reach for the electric cranking lever, I had removed the electric power cable from the reel, which together with heckles from me and Daz, then a lot of encouragement, provided a fair reason for Tim to manual wind the whole way. Great effort mate, a top capture!

The deckies......we now need to fill the third slot.......

Final tally was a full bag of Cat 1 fish.

Daz, it has been a pleasure mate, looking forward to next years annual salmon trip down south already!

Great stuff John. I'm now great friends with some great blokes that I've met on this site. They've been very generous with their assets and knowledge but we are also good mates away from fishing as well. Fishwrecked has been a pretty good website for that sort of thing. Daz, never met you mate but cheers for the great photos and reports while you've been over. Good luck in Gods country.

Some days I think of the crap stuff that I have had to deal with on this site over the years.  Then I see these types of stories where good friendships have been made because of fishwrecked, it just makes all the effort well worth while.  Congrats on the great day out fellas and all the best with the move Daz. :)

Tony, those things are

Tony, those things are incredible. Slime monsters!!!! Tim had a reaction to the slime, came up in a rash.....soft!

The flathead was nothing short of top shelf tucker! The grey band pretty darn good too!!!! Missus liked the flattie best, the kids liked the Grey Band. I thought they were about even.

Freezer pretty full of Grey Band, so next few outings we will look at other options.......

Awesome work lads..Killing it

Dissapointing that Daz has to head back home. So many good memories..It started with sambo jigging with saltwater then Jurien with whitey, salmon down south, tailor and snapper on the island, metro macks and christmas island trips. Nearly all the guys i fish with have come from fishwrecked over the years and ive learned so much through sharing knowledge and experiences with them.
Roll on salmon trip 2014!

 Thanks for the kind words

Thanks for the kind words fellas. What a great post Johnny some ripper fish and kind words. Ill be keeping an eye out on all your future jigging reports! I've gotta say fishwrecked has been instrumental in meeting some of the best blokes that I now call best mates. You all know who you are and its been a privilege to have met you, holiday with you and fish with you.

Ill be taking back some of my best fissing memories of my life and framing a few photos for the fishing room. From fishing the NW, SW, metro, Christmas Island and further abroad, its been a memorable life experience. The quality fish we caught together was really just a bonus. Hopefully I still get to share a beer and have a fish with you over east but  Ill be visiting you all every year whether it be for the salmon run, Exxy, Abrolhos, Garden or Christmas Island... or deep drop. That's a promise.

Maybe one day ill even move back to the West... Time will tell.
