Dead bronze whaler on the bottom

Jumped in for a dive off Deep Dean a few days back and bugger me there was a 2.5 metre dead bronzie on the bottom lying there like it was asleep. I gave it a prod with the spear as it was fresh. I have no idea why it was dead but it had no marks on it etc. Haven't come across that before.
