A decent day out Sunday in the sound
Had a good day out in the sound over the parmela bank on sunday. Still pretty new to boat fishing.
Bagged out on squid in under 30 minutes. About halfway to shipping channel, where the bank drops down to 12m. Just left the jigs to sink in the drift; didn't even need to jerk the rod. One tip I got off youtube was to let the squid fight for a while on the jig - this attracts other squid to the area. Indeed, when I got them to the boat there was often 2 or 3 squid chasing it.
Got a few fish also drifing over the sand where it meats the weed beds. About 5-8m depth. 2 flathead, 4 whiting and 6 red mullet (goat fish)...and of course 2 million trumpeter. All on thin squid strips as bait.
I tried out one of those expensive 12$ Black Magic whiting rigs to see if they have some magic formula! They seemed to catch the fish well. However, the red colour wore off the hooks by the 3rd fish and one of the knots on the patenoster failed and kept sliding down to the sinker. By the end of the day the line was coiling up and snagging itself - so, not really much use for another day.

I started heading back at about 4.15, so from around 3.30 I'd say. I was overcast and pretty grey. They seemed pretty happy with a red and white jig; which was a 5$ bargain bin one from Anaconda.

That's a nice bag mate. Do you mean this deeper area here in the middle of the bank before the channel? Have never done well on the squid there but perhaps that's not getting the jig down deep enough...

Breeding time
Next few weeks you will bring one up and have 10 plus following it . Always good to leave one on jig at all times . Catch rate improves greatly. Top feed
