Decoy Pike Hooks for jigging
Submitted by Captain Grumpy on Mon, 2014-07-07 20:23
Hello all
I'm keen to make my own assist hooks for demersal jigging. I like the Decoy Pike js3 however the 2/0 looks flimsy and the 3/0 appears too bulky? Does anyone have experience with with either and which do you prefer?
Cheers

I used to use them heaps but bent and broke a few using them in twin configuration. I used to make all my assists.
I have gone now to the xesta premade assists from Oceanside. They are now made with Kevlar and are some of the sharpest strongest hooks I have found. And there tied in a way that actually fits a squid skirt. Not going back now.

I just purchased some 3/0 and
I just purchased some 3/0 and 4/0 JS-3 and find their gauges alright. I would use the 3/0 on my PE3 rod and 4/0 and PE4 rod to ensure sufficient force to drive the hooks home.
Haven't broken any yet perhaps I fish light drag ?
