Swords
dodgy,
Reece has done 1 trip I think with no hook ups (he can asnwer that one correctly)
For me I havnt targeted them yet, I've got a new custom made swordy rod from Ian Miller and my new Shimano Talica 50 2 speed reel turned up today at my shop!
Just gotta spool it up, stitch some baits and get out there when the weathers better!
Time to crack that code now

Swords
Been quite a few over the years caught as bycatch off Perth while deep dropping.
With all the interest on the East Coast it is gaining momentum here too.

It can be a strange place at night out wide, used to do 3-4 day trips chasing goldies, would mess with your head at times. Whales are always a worry,( we hit 1 heading south from CB, limped to port ) waves, then you get those still nights with strange sounds. The main thing is, plan well, check everything, have spares, life raft is a good idea out there. let sea rescue know where you are going and when you plan to return. If you can go out with 2 boats better. A sat phone. Check the weather and if its ify don't go. Know you boats limits and yours. Know how to read charts and allow for currents and read a compass. Limit the beers, no good being smashed out there. If people want to sleep then there must be some one on watch, better with 2 on watch

how fast were you going when
how fast were you going when you hit the whale? It's one of my biggest worries out there, especially in the dark.. you've basically got no control, one of those things that can just happen

Just 10-11KN, did some
Just 10-11KN, did some damage, bit of water coming in, tarped up best we could, pumps managed till we got to port, deck wash intake was diverted to suck from the bilge, had to stay in the bilge to make sure the pump didn't run dry. not one of my best trips lol
