Deep Sea ID

 HI,

On a recent trip to coral bay the guys staying next to us pulled this thing from the depths 360m, just interested to see if anyone has any idea? looks like a sucker on the underside but took a large bait.. it was rock hard all over and a hard clear plastic cover over the eyes

Gotta be prehistoric....lack of dorsal fins and hard surface are considered to be primitive features. Hopefully Glenn from the museum can weigh in on this one!

The "fingers" in front of the pec fins are a characteristic of the gurnard family....

It looks bloody horible

Perhaps it's an extra from 200000 leagues beneath the sea.

One to many zeros should be 20000 leagues, you didn't see the picture then Tim, it stared James Mason as captain nemo if I remember correctly. If I'm wrong about that then I'm sure some other oldie will put me right.
The nuke sub he drove looked exactly like the fish up for ID
