This is impossible to ID from just a photo, but it is most likely to be a conger eel of some sort (Family Congridae), but there are several deepwater species. Without the specimen in hand, there are also a few other eel families that are difficult to completely rule out of the ID. I'm impressed that it was 1.5m long though!

Not the best of pics
but the head shape and other general characteristics of the smaller conger eel pictured below look similar to me.
