Are they assists on a Richter?   Does it help, it looks good.

Well done

Not Richters

They are another South African brand of plug called GT ice-cream , and yes the assist hooks work really well.

So how do they line up with the Richters?

 Length, weight, bias etc?

Did you fast crank or walk the Ice Creams?

Gt ice-creams

There are different shapes , sizes , weight and colours. They cast a mile and each one requires a different style of retrieve . In MY opinion they are better than the Richters.

Hi Shaun,I replace the assist

Tue, 2013-04-16 14:03

Hi Shaun,

I replace the assist back hook with a single hook. Do ya reckon that's gonna alter the action of the GT-Ice Cream ?

I have the exact same one that you are using. How do you reckon I should work this plug ?

I tried cranking flat out and it skips the surface like a garfish being pursued by a predator. Other than that, I can't work out any other action from this plug.

Your advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Uluaman

Hi

Hi Uluaman ,

I dont think that it will effect the action of the lure , I do think that you will have a better hook up rate with the assist hook and I feel that it is harder for the fish to throw the hook.

There are 2 different Gt ice-creams in the pictures , the thinner one (needle nose) I throw out and let it sink to the bottom before retrieving it very fast to the surface , once its on the surface I use a medium speed retrieve and hold the rod tip up .

The other one is called a cone , I mainly use it rougher conditions and use a medium to slow retrieve.

Hope that helps.

Good stuff

I just got back from down there and there's definetely Salmon around. We were using live herring down the line just on a single hook and chucking out a mule/herring on a float when they were in. Pulled in 3 myself all around ~5kg and there were some big kingys around and if it wasn't for the reef I would've been able to have a proper go at one. Few bonito around too
