Was spewing as we followed

Mon, 2010-09-27 06:58

Was spewing as we followed some dhuies and they went under a ledge. Jesse speared and spiked his fish and gave a big thumbs up he was very happy later when we got on the boat I had to apologies as I thought the camera was on Its hard to think when your down there and so much is going on.
Jeff there is a lot of ground in closes in most directions from two rocks. Come summer we will go and check and film them and I bet some have fish just like that.
one thing I did notice was when we were sounding around you were not picking up single fish as arches on the sounder just red blobs I have never seen fish arches on my sounder. It was spot on with the bottom coral and soft and heavy bottom.

Great stuff Paul. That really makes me miss WA. Can't wait to get back and dive those sort of areas. Looks a bit cold though. Dived here on Saturday, 30 degree water at 27m and 34 degrees during a snorkle later that day.

Paul,   Great vid, enjoyed

Mon, 2010-09-27 16:08

Paul,

Great vid, enjoyed immensley.

Perhaps you could give fisheries research a clue where to drop their cameras, as they just can't find any dhus and therefore tell us we have to catch less. Maybe they should drop their cameras in the right area's.

nice dive Paul

Tue, 2010-09-28 07:38

Nice work Paul,

I have a spot very similar to that out from Two Rocks in 30m. Waht depth was that in?

As for the comments on the amount of dhuies and the researchers - more than likely this is an aggregation so you would expect there to be a lot of dhuies there, however whats to say 10 years ago that there wasnt 10 times the number of fish there????? Would still look like there are dhuies everywhere but in the bigger scheme of things is a far cry from what it used to be.

I know of another 2 spots where they school up to spawn and if fished at the right time (I will not fish these spots anymore) dhuies are all you catch.

I myself welcome the changes as at least the fish have a better chance and if it works videos like this will become more common for all to enjoy.

Tue, 2010-09-28 18:40

My get back out there this weekend if I don't go to the Abrolhos .get some more vid .I noticed Andy and Gully were talking about the fish in months to come I will keep checking on them but I bet In a few weeks they will all be gone . Had a lump out side this one loaded one day and two weeks later one undersize dhuie was all that was left, the fish move around all the time come and go from these spots .would love to tag them all and see where they turn up..
