Dhuie with white eye

Was fishing out of Ledge Pt yesterday and we caught an undersize dhu - upon closer inspection 1 of it's eyes were almost completely white(approx 90% of the area that is normally black). i thought it may have been a scar from damage done by a hook or another fish etc etc, however the eye was still very smooth. We released the fish and then proceeded to go for a dive on the reef. I observed the dhuie along with another dhu swimming around the lump, it did not appear to be hindered by a lack of sight.
Just wondering if anyone else has seen this before?
