diesel chip

hey fellas,

i'm lookin at getting my new hilux chipped (3L turbo diesel). i just had a quick look at the chipit site, with exhaust gas temp sensor, totaling $1400. apparantly, the difference in performance is pretty substantial. better power, fuel efficiency, etc.

anyone got one (or equivelent), any good or bad experiences, performance differences, etc?

can anyone reccomend any other brands or places to go?

cheers,

scotto.

I'm looking at doing the same (Navara D40)

I've looked at Steinbauer, which are a simple plug & go; and also was recommended DP chip by the TJM boys - has a bit more control - can adjust the level of tuning

Dan ,

You said you was thinking of a chip for your d40 ..hope this helps...

i have chipped my d40 - balcatta chip it , speak to dean .Chip with EGT and 3in stainless mandel bent exhaust. Well worth the money and don't bother with the other chips that can be tuned by a screw driver like the dp chip ...yes it will make a difference from stock , but i don't believe it is better then a full dyno tune which you get at chip it . They give you a full dyno print out so you know what kw/nm you really have not just claimed numbers . My d40 went from 89.5kw - 155.2kw and 389nm to 557 nm HUGE difference and the way the d40 drives now is totally awesome..most d40 have a black smoke issue from factory that was 100% sorted out by the chip and exhaust and no more pig like driving, i even had a nissan dealer owner drive in my d40 a couple of weeks ago and he couldn't believe the difference ! he has ordered one for his .

Fuel -done two fuel tests since i had the set up fitted  - using 64L for 720k's - i think that is really good , and that is a range of driving from babying it to spinning wheels .

I am really happy with mine and would recommend the chip setup to anyone

Uncle chipped his triton 3.2l

Tue, 2012-01-10 12:28

Uncle chipped his triton 3.2l td. went from 75kw at wheels to 120 and 280nm to a whopping 450nm. I just bought the 3.2l brand new bt-50 and his triton leaves me for dead. He gets about 10l/hundred. about the same as it was not chipped so worth while.

Tue, 2012-01-10 13:35

Where i work now, the chip it bloke used to be next door, but he moved premises but that was before i worked here, anyway the boss said its pretty good what he does, he made the idea up himself and built his business up, only met the bloke once, seems ok. thats all my input on it, might not be that relevant tho mate.

I have a Chip it fitted to my Patrol 3l common rail with temp control and 3" exhaust , made a massive difference and would recommend Justin in a flash ,good after sales service and it sucks having to take chip out to get service carried out at Nissan ,you really notice the change .Temps are roughly 100.c lower than stock and power increase matched the figures they have on web , do it you wont be dissapointed .

I looked around at all the options and settled on Chip it by reputation .

I have the chip it chip cost

Tue, 2012-01-10 14:55

I have the chip it chip cost 800$ fitted to my d4d lux and it pisses now!
Blows a little smoke when u put your foot down tho, I did a heap of research
Befor and chip it wins hands down, it's also fitted with a switch in the cab to turn it on and off
So u can feel the difference it makes, plus u can do all the online tuning if u get other mods done
(exhaust, snorkle ect) and not have to leave your house

Good feed back fellas,

Tue, 2012-01-10 16:33

This is all very encouraging. when the customers do the selling, you know it must be good.

Another question, andym you mentioned you have to remove the chip before servicing. How come? The dude at chipit said it doesn't affect warranty. Does it?

Also, what about fuel economics? Does it use more/less/equal fuel normally and towing?

Lastly, if these things are so good, why don't toyota have their own?

 Scotto, Toyota traditionally

Tue, 2012-01-10 18:21

Scotto, Toyota traditionally make very relaiable engines that run on a moderate state of tune.  So they play it very safe, and give plenty of room to increase performance.  The chip just remaps the engine management or piggybacks on the engine management to give slightly more fuel, boost, timing etc and adjusts the engines characteristics

I would def recommend a chip,  I have a DP chip in my D40 Navara and it goes hard.  It toys my 2.5t boat much better that my 4.2L TD Landcruiser.  As far as fuel economy, I still get as good as 8-10L /100km, and up to 14-15 when towing the boat.  (my cruiser did 18-20 and worse towing).  It depends on how you drive it as well, people get a chip fitted, and love the extra grunt and drive it harder, then the fuel economy will suffer.  If you drive the car normally, then fuel economy shouldn't really change too much, maybe get a little bit worse.  Another plug for the DP chip is that it adjustable as Dan said.  If I'm towing the boat or doing a lot of sand driving, then I'll put wind it up a notch, if I'm just driving around the city then I'll back it off

Do it mate, you won't regret it

 I'm getting roughly the same

Tue, 2012-01-10 18:29

I'm getting roughly the same fuel economy with the chip(600ks a tank with31" tyres and a bit of weight on the back) I was also told it didn't affect warranty.

If your gonna be towing long distances with the chip Id defiantly get the egt sensor to cut it off when it gets too hot...  Your motor won't last long with high egt temps

Gday Scotto , i have a leased

Wed, 2012-01-11 16:36

Gday Scotto , i have a leased Patrol so remove it only as a precaution ,Nissan dont care ,and fuel economy was around 14l/h now average around 11.5l/h with lots more go and towing boat or full camper trailer get mid 14s  . I have EGT control and it will detune to standard if it gets to 650 ,but with 3" exhaust ive never been above 600 towing trailer through Northhampton was highest.

Chip it

Another vote for Chipit - had the 3" pipe done first then the chip on a manual T/D 100 series - massive difference and no change to fuel economy - highly recomend it

Food for thought,

Fri, 2012-01-13 05:59

I had a drama with the new auto not wanting to go into 4th, whilst I was pulling the boat back from dunsborough 2 weeks ago.Took it to Toyota to get it checked, and whilst I was there, I quizzed the mechanic on his pov of chipping.

He said straight away, that a chip will immediately void toyotas warranty, and he has witnessed several cooked donks from chips.

I haven't looked any further into it, but getting 2 different answers from either end is confusing. Anyone know FOR SURE about this? The car is 2 months old, and I don't want to fuck the warranty up.

Cheers

3k they reckon alot of the other chips just increasse the amount of fuel into the injectors where their system does other things. increases the maxium torque from 650nm to 950nm or there abouts.

Sun, 2014-08-17 16:01

After finding this post and reading all the positive coments about Chip It I got excited and thought I might get one fitted but after a short search on Google it appears they went bust..... Does anyone know if they are trading as another name or if someone has taken over their product???

If not does anyone have an experience with other good local deisel tuning chip companies for my D40 Navara??

I went through the same

Tue, 2014-08-19 01:36

I went through the same process. End result, i Just had my 3lt turbo diesel patrol chipped last month. Put in a steinbauer chip. Didnt need to do the exhaust i was told. Was happy with the move to install the chip with noticeable increase in power. I went to allied diesel and turbo in wangara. Service was good and happy with the job.
