DIY Cray pots
Submitted by buddharock on Wed, 2013-11-06 20:16
Hey guys,
Just chatting to Dad about making my own pots as he used to own a cray pot factory back in the 80's. He is recently retired and asked him if he wanted something to do he could make me a couple of pots. He said that they used to sell pre-cut materials to the pros who would make their own replacements during the off season. Anyone know if this is still possible or am I better off looking out for some on the Gumtree or f/s here. Looking at jarrah frame, pine slats, 1/2 to 3/4 size as pulling by hand. Already have a couple of plastic ones that I have fitted bait baskets to but keen to upgrade to wood.
Thanks

I got some batten and frame timbers off Activ's in Geraldton, do they make pots in Perth also?
Give a man a mask, and he'll show you his true face...
The older you get the more you realize that no one has a f++king clue what they're doing.
Everyone's just winging it.

Handy
If you are creative with a power saw you can cut your own battens from 2x1 jarrah purchased from a building salvage yard.
The fisheries site has all the measurements you need, a heap of galvanised 1/4 bolts and clouts plus bait baskets and necks scavenged off a beach after a bit blow.
