Anyone fished Hill River beach ?
Submitted by Squidring on Sun, 2012-10-14 14:46
Hi all, headed up to Hill River beach next month,( just sth of Jurien) for an overnight fishing trip. Havent been before and was looking for info
that others are willing to share , such as your experiences and any tips to make the trip easier or more successful. Four guys , 3 4x4s, and high hopes will be making the trip. No we dont have a boat to take with us. We plan to catch livies in the afternoon , and fish evening and on into the night , with some balooning if the wind is favourable.
Any advice folks ?

No camping
No camping at Hill river mate, But hey, if you have a line in the water, your fishing not camping. The ranger is ok but if you light a fire and he turns up you will be fined.
As for fishing like Rig said , burley up right on the shore line and put out nice fresh baits. If you do a site search you should find plenty of reports from Hill .
Cheers Grant.

permission
One of the clubs I fish in gets permission from the shire to do an overnighter, I have never seen the ranger there. I dont light fires attract attention etc.
If you have rods out and dont have a tent set up there is SFA they can do anyway

Last week..
Went up that way last week, weeded up a bit! If the winds are favourable I'd definetly try sending the baloon out. May be a little early but recon you'd be a chance for an early season mackie?

Yeah I will do mate. First real venture with the D40 Navara so if it looks too scary I will bail out, but if i make it there (or somewhere around there) i will report in anyhow.
Please bear in mind that i am the kiss of death when it comes to fishing so please dont hold high expectations haha

I was told...
I was told that immediately Nth of the river mouth the sand is particularly soft , but Sth not so bad.
Re the kiss of death , thats okay , you will just be leaving a few more fish behind for me.
Really looking forward to the trip , metro beach fishing is starting to drain my enthusiasm.

No need for 4x4
If you head up towards the river mouth from the Marine drive entrance you don't need a 4x4 for the first Km. After that it gets a bit soft but still not bad. Only thing i can suggest is stay away from the edge of the river. It has stinky soft black sludge just under the sand and can suck your car down in a second. I have seen many 4x4s stuck there , and they all said " i didn't think it was that bad "

Left the run a bit late and
Left the run a bit late and didn't make it up but just south of the river mouth (car parks at marine drive) there was heaps of weed and the beach was very soft! There was a car at the river mouth but the seabreeze was pumping so the fishing would have been tough.

Kiss of death status
Kiss of death status continues. Managed to snag a snook on a halco hamma last night and that is all I have caught. Old man has a few Taylor, skippy and snook on whiting/pilchard baits.

Thread was from last year. Never mind, I will be up there next weekend so I can give you a report from that general area a couple of days after the trip.
