Donkey red in 20mtrs

Plan was to hit the water at 7 as low tide was at 6 but as we arrived at 7 there was a queue of boats lined up waiting. There was no water at the bottom of the ramp only mud. Oh well we just have to wait. At 7:30 the boats started to launch.

Headed out to a spot we marked last week that was holding fish , Sandy was the first to hook up as usual ,to bring up a nice black. As I was sorting that one out Sandy started topping me on the back as my hearing aid is busted and can't hear much I looked over to see my rod going nuts. Had a damn good fight on my hands with the fish pulling line out as fast as I was bringing it in. After a 10 minuit fight too and fro a donkey red came to the surface, to say I was stoked is an understatement.  After that got nothing else in the area so moved on .

As we were heading out to another spot we had marked came across a nice size sea snake which we got a couple of pics and as it was showing fish under us we gave it a go but nothing. Headed out to where's ands got her red last week with not much showing so just set a drift and hoped for the best. Ended up with me getting a dark tail and followed by a spanglie . The fishing totally shut down . Wind blowing about 12 knots and we were drifting against the wind. 16oz sinker in 16 to 18 mtrs of water and couldn't hold bottom . Oh well , gave up and headed in . Finally I out fished Sandy .

Nearly all the time my rid sits in the holder. Either I am preparing the bait , sorting out the fish Sandy catches or just chilling . Caught mor good fish like that as your not tempted to strike at just any old bite

There is something extra special catching classy demersals like your red in shallow water.
That's a great catch and pic.

Ramp is port hedland.

The red was a solid fish for sure. Went 710 mm and around 6.5 to 7 kg . Had to get an accurate weight with the boat rocking around

Nicve fat red Russ! I believe they fight all the way to the boat, not like a lot of fish that just give up after a few metres.

With a lot of research in the past when we have got them we came to the conclusion it's a dark tail snapper. Not a bad fish to feed on . There are several other species that look similar

That was one of my thaughts in species but if you have a look at the shape of the head it is a no brainer to me. Colour and shape are similar
