Only excitement was watching the chopper and police boats look for that missin swimmer off scarbs till 4.00am...
went in for a rubbber neck....see what all the fuss was about
Heading to the 6m reef and stumbled across a HUGE bait school maybe 500m off the scarbs main beach being tagged by undersize snapper, tailor to 50cm, pike, 1kg skippy, big squid and juv sambos....
was fun for a hour having the bait sitting under the boat trying to hide from the preditors ....as we drifted (extremely slowly) the bait moved along with us....
the just undersize snapper were taking baits off the surface
Yes, I'd suggest his Wife may make the swimming ordeal look less painfull. LOL
I guess it demonstrates that fish will, at times, tackle one food chain source and not another and explains why different baits/lures work at/on different times/days.
Dunno about the squid down there, but I've seen pods of squid attack decent sized fish up here when hooked. I had a 35-40cm blueline come up the other day and a pack of squid following it attacking it with their tentacles. After claiming a couple of the squid I gave the blueline back to them which they dragged off into the distance for a feed.
