As you can see, I'm still very much alive. There was a few things that resulted in my absence. Truth is, I was spending a HUGE amount of time in the forums and Mrs D got a bit 'miffed'. Also, I needed to concentrate my efforts on securing a job (unfortunately, still no successs yet, despite a LOT of applications - it's very dissapointing how many prospective employers do not have the courtesy to even respond). Finally, I've been getting into our garden as I was spending too much time inside the house.
Anyway, as I said, still alive and kicking and thanks again.
On the fishing front; the weather has (as usual) been VERY average, but did manage to get out a couple of weeks ago and picked up a 22Kilo Sambo, two pinkies (10 Kl and 6Kl), a few Nannys, a Harley and a couple of Black Arse. So it was a great day - I'll post a seperate thread.
Thanks for the well wishes mate! Yeah, HOPEFULLY something will come up job wise - sad but true, at 51, some prospective employers appear to see that as an impediment rather than life experience and stability etc.
As for the boat? Yes - the boat is going VERY well! Thanks GOODNESS the issues where sorted out and free of charge!
hahaha see knew the cobwebs would come off him and he would be back, yeah colin the women just dont get it do they, dont mind shopping all day but dont like us on the forums all day, go figure
about being put in the too old basket. I was doing some part-time University lecturing a few years ago and applied for a full-time job. One of the kids I was lecturing was given the job ahead of me.
It is very frustrating. And as you say, it is really crappy when they don't even bother to get back to you.
Something will turn up. Maybe you can write some yarns for FWA. They are looking for new writers and will pay. The best thing is you should be able to get tax claims on your fishing gear.
Mav - thanks VERY much for welcome back - and thanks for the comment on the Avatar! In 15m of water, it was sure "fun" (Hell!). Yeah, they are a great fish aren't they - besides the re-ecperience of catching another Sambo (though the first down here) - just felt I had to use it.
On the tag issue, yes; I always check fish for tags, but thanks for the reminder.
Colin - Yes, very frustrating - writing for FWA is a good idea - I bought latest one, and, without being picky - some of the grammer could have been improved - though, of course I exclude Brad and Andy's excellent articles!
The proofing in the latest FWA is particularly lousy.
You can only really afford to leave the spell check off if you're really very good, but they allowed "simular resultts" which would be easy to pick up but the classic was much later when they left in "Need a standfirst for this piece... this is a placeholder for a standfirst. Please write a standfirst for this space, a standfirst here".
I guess their proofer was off fishing? Can't hold that against them!
Having worked in publishing for a long time I have seen some howlers. But still the standfirst bit should have been picked up. That was more a sub editor's mistake.
Agreed, that was a such an unnecessary oversight and detracted from some otherwise good content. Precise proof reading is so important. Mind you, I don't think I've read (a number of) book(s) lately that hasn't had some typographical/contextual/past particple or other gramatical error in it. Of course, most books have a lot more draft copy to proof. Maybe it was a deadline thing.
Oh you are a generous man Dreamy. The number of times I see 'there' instead of 'their' (and believe it or not the other way around some times) 'myself' instead of 'me' or 'I' etc. Pitty as a bit of proof reading (which I might add isn't the easiest thing in the world to do) or better still use one of the electronic grammar checkers.
Hey, here's an idea. Dreamy, instead of writing for FWA, get yourself employed as their proof reader.

Thanks Ody - I Think
Gee, thanks Ody, I think
Well, in the absence of a factual explanation, I like to give people and circumstances the benefit of the doubt.
And I haven't started writing for FWA - yet!
A copy proof reader you say? Hmmm. Not a BAD idea. I can see it now though, signature:

Miss ONE item and spend time as follows:
1) 30% proof reader (paid)
2) 70% prood reader defence (unpaid)
Still; by nature I am pedantic and indefectible.
Hang on, let me proof read the above before I hit the Post comment button!
