Dropping anchor and tying to bow with a fixed windscreen

Dropping anchor and tying to bow with a fixed windscreen - This may sound like a stupid question, but.... I'm keen to hear if there is a secret to dropping anchor and tying up to the bow with a fixed windscreen?

It would be near on impossible to do so without climing over the windscreen which is hard enough to do on land, let alone on water.

I've got a 4.3m fibreglass dinghy with fwd controls that came with a windscreen that isn't attached.

Cheers.

This is the system I use.

I have a rope permanently attached to the bollard at the bow, it's length is long enough to be about 300mm short of the cleat at the stern. At the stern end I have a polystyrene float and then a stainless quick release clip attached to it. I use a bungy cord around the cleat, hooked onto this clip to keep it tight and tidy when I'm not using it.
The anchor assembly I keep in the back of the boat, I use a plastic crate to hold the rope etc. At the end of the rope I have fastened another float, in case I have to jetterson the anchor, I can find it again.
When anchoring I feed out the required scope, then tie a loop in the rope. Then unclip the bow rope and clip it onto this loop.
Feed out more anchor rope and you are now anchored by the bow.

How to use the Anchor Lifter

Thu, 2013-03-28 21:20

Iana
I have a very similar anchor setup as you but have problems with getting the anchor to lift. Just wondering how you do it speed etc. I may be going to slowly for the system to work or attacking it from the wrong angle. Any help would be most appreciated.

Anka Yanka

Amblance, you are talking about an anchor (anka) yanker (with a Y not a W), I don't have one. What I'm describing is anchoring off the bow without having to be up there. The floats are 1/ for the short rope attached to the bow bollard, in case I drop it, its not going to sink and I can retrieve it with a boat hook, and 2/the float at the end of the main anchor rope, so I can throw the whole lot overboard in a hurry and retrieve it later.
I would love to have a winch instead, but my bank manager says no.
Try Googling Anchor yanker, there is info there on using it.

Trick

Fri, 2013-03-29 14:22

The trick to getting your anckor yanker to work is , the chain must weigh more than the anchor otherwise once you have it up it the weight of the anchor will just pull the chain through the ring and back down to the bottom again. With the heavier chain the anchor is held up near the float.

With anchoring I din't even bother going up the front of the boat or using a lazy line back to the cockpit. The bitter end is tied to the post and the rest of the rope is in the cockpit, if it needs shortening just coil up whats needed and tie it off mid rope and it goes over the side with the rest, serving as a damper if there is any sort of sea running.

When it comes to pulling it in, just drive up the line and puul the slack in until you get to the coil then clip the anchor yanker on and drive straight over where the anchor is set and keep going till the whole lot is dragging behind you theb circle round or back up, pulling the rest of the rope in as you go.

Query

Would that process be a good idea when anchored off the reef?

I would imagine there would be a good chanse of hook up when taking off.
