Dunsborough Crabbing
Submitted by psycho fishing on Wed, 2013-10-30 08:54
Heading to Dunsborough for the weekend and was wondering if their are any crabs around in the bay. if so are they on the shore for scooping or do you need a boat with drop nets. if a boat is required how far of shore?
Any info would be appreciated

I was in Busselton last weekend. I went out from Abbey in a boat with drop nets. We were out there for about 2 hours but only managed 3 sized crabs. There were a lot of big females with eggs that had to be put back.
We were about 100 meters off the beach.

I was out there between 4 and 6 in the afternoon. Maybe I needed to go in the morning or later in the evening.
Had fun launching the boat at low tide too. That ramp is really shallow now!

Haven't heard much on the crab front of late but they are always around and worth a try. Just before the weed line off the beach is a good spot for drop nets which is only around 10m-20m out. Worth having a scoop at night as well.

Groyne
Just put your head down towards your groin, should be plenty there.
Nah, seriously, this time of the year try in the sand patches out around the moorings at Quindalup and you'll get a feed in no time.
Take a squid jig with you.
