Dunsborough Deep Drop Cherry Pop
Submitted by Lamby on Sun, 2012-12-16 19:39
During the ban many bevy's fell victim in the discussion of fishing & suffice to say Harro & Nizzy sold me the virtues of deep drop all too happy to pop my cherry! I was keen to put my tub to the test & had a nice cruise out there before handing it over to Harro for tuition time. The boys had only touched the bottom after sorting the drift & both began wrestling with double headers, Nizzy with a Puka & Blue Eye whilst Harro was dealing with a double Blue.
Next drift I had a crack getting my own double of Puka & Blue Eye, too stoked on the Blue to worry about the Puka.
2 drifts, bagged out & time to go home. Cheers for the day lads, good banter as usual!

Simple answer
I know what you mean, and in the area , one mark is about 2mile away ,
now I know who you are after your name change, you should try it out there one day, a mate 3d mapped a massive area its taken a lot of trips out there to sound it as you have to go so slow , the currents were not helping either swinging us across the cliff face not down it, these were all caught high up on the bank,

Awesome
Great stuff Lamby. It can't physically get any better, unless you get two fish on one hook and at that size..... very unlikely. Quality table fare.
The best reason for doing what's right today is tomorrow.

Nice cherry Lamby
I guess some new electrics might be next on the wish list. Good to see the trophy out wide.
Excellent fish. One year ago that was me with Nizzy and Harro and we had a feast of Blue eye for New years. Excellent eating indeed.
See you soon.

Good catch there guys
Not wanting to hijack the thread but I know others including myself who have struggled to successfully cook the blue eye. I generally shallow fry my fish and I have found it particularly difficult to get just right. Far less forgiving than any other fish I have ever cooked. Under or over cook and its either chewy or dry. In all my years I have never experienced a fish like it to the extent that I don't think I would target them. If anyone can offer some advice with respect to preparation and cooking I'm all ears.

Fork
Hi Alan
The trick is as soon as you can push a fork through the fillet without meeting any resistance, remove from the heat and let it sit for a couple of minutes to finish cooking. Never fails ;)

Thanks Jody
I'll give that a try. I've still got many feeds in the freezer from before the ban. Using the fork test as you suggest is the time to remove it off the heat soon after the full thickness of the fillet goes milky in colour? Also are you using low, medium or high heat?
