dunsborough spots

hi guys. My family and i have relocated to yallingup about 5 months ago. I drive in and out of perth every 6day shift.  I was wondering if anyone is kind enough to point me in the right direction or even catchup for a fish offshore sometime. I take my 7/5 yr olds out most times. I was advised to go out to 15-18m make off eagle bay, which i did and sound around which i did but didn't find any productive spots. If someone can give any advice i would b most greatful. Message or replies would really b great.  I have a little 18ft fibre glass boat with a relatively new hds 5 sounder, still learning to navigate with.i know no fisho gives his spots away but anything would b great.. tight lines. . Regards Don

Hi Don

We've just relocated from Perth to Busselton, so all the sounding/ exploring starts again. We went out from Dunsborough on News Years Eve and struggled to find any ground. Fished Wrights bank, along with every body else but was a bit lost away from that, trolling about a bit to try and find ground but with no real luck.

We had some fun with Sambos and undersized Dhuies and Pinkies. I'll do a bit more homework before launching next time, don't get to go out as much as I'd like to so need to make the most of it. We'll keep in touch mate see if we can find some ground.

From Cape Naturaliste out to the Naturaliste Reef there is a line of reefs that the fish seem to use as a corridor to move along to spawning areas closer to shore . Whether they use it because that is where the food is or it just offers them protection from larger predatory fish is a known un-known but what we've found is that when there's a lot of traffic on the surface and remembering that noise resonates under the water the fish tend to hide in the caves and overhangs during the day and have to be teased out to take a bait. Sending berley to the bottom helps draw them out. On the Bunbury side of that line of reefs in the Bay there are heaps of spot reefs through out that aren't marked on any maps and it's just search and find something that perhaps hasn't been fished recently. The commercial guys a lot of the time have already fished an area and cleaned up while our closure is in place so it's not an equal playing field at the moment but perhaps thats something we can change in the future. Hope that helps.
