Dusting off the rods for Coral bay

 Hey guys,

been a while since i have wet a line and feel ashamed of myself but i have focused alot of my time and effort on my photography and building my name and my work.

Lisa & I are taking a much needed break to Coral bay very soon. Im driving up and staying at the peoples park ocean biew studio apartment.

I plan to do some shore based fishing and need to see if anyone can answer my question.

The one place that took my fancy to have a fish was from the rock wall at the new boat ramp.

Do any of you know if your allowed to fish from here? I searched the forum and google. Some say you can, some say only after charter boats come in the arvo

all help muchly appreciated

marc

Unless has changed, shore based fishing is ok and includes the Rock wall. Off the jetty bit where the Charters come in is another question and always thought was off limits. Unless feeding Merv.

Yup. Last time I was up there the Rockwell was fine, but you weren't supposed to fish off the jetties.

Got a 4wd?

plenty of other options up there.

was there for xmas and new year

went fishing with the kids at the rock wall over the xmas break, caught a 1.8 mtr bull shark, 68cm NW Snapper and a few other things. From my understanding you are not allowed to fish off the jetty even after the charter boats come in. If you head to the dive shop, for a gold coin donation they will give you a mud map of the area. we had some good fishing on a rising and falling tide at the sand bar (nth of town)

Most people do it, some parts

Thu, 2015-01-22 08:08

Most people do it, some parts are no fishing but it doesnt really get enforced unless someone has a whinge.

Main thing-pull ya lines in if a boat comes along.

In Kalbarri last weekend, lots of people fishing off the jetty when we came alongside and most just pull in when you approach, but two people who had lines out maybe 10 meters just watched me come up and pull up suddenly before running their lines over but didnt make a move at all until I asked politely that I didnt want their nylon in my prop and needed to come alongside.

A little surly but at least no agro...

When you heading up there, old mate from my past?

kids and missus have hijacked first week of my annual two weeker to coral bay and exmouth; if there at same time as you, your more than welcome to borrow the four wheel drive and head out for a day (I'm sure there will be at least one day when I'm not allowed to go fishing!!!! So its all yours for at least a day).

tracks are pretty tame anyway - even if not there same time as you, you can access at lot with a 2 wheel drive and a short walk.....I've done yardie creek homestead to coral bay a few times by car (at the right time of year).

I'm up there with the boat last week of March (with missus and kids), then they fly back to perth and I go on to exmouth for a week.....can come for a day on the water mate if we can jag the same period....

Its ok to fish off the rocks

Sat, 2015-01-24 19:55

Its ok to fish off the rocks at the Boat ramp as long as you keep out the way of boats, but not off the jettys.

Just stick to lures, unweighted rigs or floats. Limestone botton with lots of cracks and heaps of eel's that will pick off anything that is on the bottom too long.

You can get to Mauds no problem with 2WD, carpark right next to beach entrance.
