Met my first bad Rec Fishers in WA after 9 months this morning

So I went up to Point Walter today for some whiting etc, an went to the jetty... said hello to some guys there, was ok for a bit. Second I told em what I was after they changed...  some comment about dont you go after my fish and  then they just stood next to me whispering  an trading gear with each other... lol I have to say it was like being back in highschool.

So I think I am gonna sell up my two big rods today an go buy some spinning gear for flattys etc an stay the hell away from that place:). Lots of nice flattys other places. I do have a question though, is it normal for rec fishers to be so rude to each other when you ask what they use for bait lures etc etc.... an conversation in general. Never run into that before as all others I've met have been really friendly. Anyways after a 4am start, no fish an the nearly overpowering NEED to throw both of them in the Swan I left an went home to the wife :D  (need to make nice so I can go to South st an buy a new rod)

Trading gear? Sure they weren't junkies and not fisherman?

Shoulda cast over their lines and made a general nuisance of yourself. I'd have played Sepultura very loudly on my bluetooth stereo too

Beware Maylands jetty on the river in the evening

lots of human garbage fishing amongst the descent people there (You can pick them from the crowd within a minute of arriving just listen out for the language - every second word is either  F$%K, C$%T, S&*T or a combination of the three

Yer see I like to meet new

Fri, 2015-01-23 13:36

Yer see I like to meet new ppl an I'm a talker lol so I always strike up a convo with other fishers. But these guys soon as I said "the wrong thing" they got smarmy... Ah well not a bad average once in 9 months ain't bad. I figure my luck has to change soon cos it can't get worse heh.

I could strangle Bcf selling "whiting rods an "bream rods" at 6-8 lb an 10-20lb. Really should have done my homework first an never ever gone to Bcf...

They are really nice Rods but useless for what I want.

A mate and I were at a spot

Sat, 2015-01-24 10:34

A mate and I were at a spot south of Austal in Hendo, and there were at least 8 pairs of fishermen there, and we had no luck, with the other groups doing far better than us. All spead out, about 20-30 metres apart, as we left we spotted two old dogs relling in some fish, double header Skippy on a cool bottom rig. Said g'day, and asked how they were doing - rude as hell to us, barely acknowledged our 2-3 sentences, and we left saying "have a good night" to a silent reply. This got me to the point where I said to my mate unintentionally loud enough for them to catch a listen "Grumpy old pricks should set us all a better example to be friendly and share advice, makes me wanna show them we are better by being the way we think they should be".

I find this is commonplace, across the board of young and old. When I was a kid, my parents encouraged me to go talk with other people fishing to get pointers and hey, you do sometimes make actual friends out of it. I've had it from guys my own age on jetty's and seen open-tacklebox lure theft, racism, general bullying and a few punch-ons (this is over the last 15 years, and far-between instances). Total ruiner and no need to happen when fishing.

It's like anything but man, theres dickheads everywhere, just unlucky you gotta bump into them from time to time. Have fun, and f*** anyone who tries to stop you.

you ask :"is it normal for rec fishers to be so rude to each other when you ask what they use for bait lures etc etc.... ?"

think your answer is here: "Met my first bad Rec Fishers in WA after 9 months this morning."

don't sweat the small stuff, sometimes ppl just want to get a bit of "me time" when they fish and don't want to strike up a conversation....first bad in 9 months seems pretty good luck to me !

:)

Some people go fishing to go

Sat, 2015-01-24 14:28

Some people go fishing to go fishing, other people seem to go fishing to find friends. There is a certain amount of space that should be given, especially out wide.. its a big ocean

 That's not what it's about

Sat, 2015-01-24 16:06

That's not what it's about in my book, I go fishing to fish but also to relax. Ignorance an attitude as no defence really. Your either an asshole or your not, it's pretty black an white.
