e sheds tonight mixed feelings

Gudday all. Usual night at e sheds with loads of scalies about 2mtrs down with livies being chomped in half without a hookup on my big rig. Had some youngsters constantly crossing our lines till i said i'd cut theirs if they did it again!

Someone landed a mulla about 1mtr long! Made my day to see someone that happy. Had a couple of livies left as we were packing up, so wandered down the wharf to see if they were wanted. Came across a couple of young lads with a throw net. mentioned nets werent allowed and 40 was the limit for bait fish. Turns out, apparently, You CAN use a net if you have a 30 dollar license, and there is NO limit to scalies! They had a 10ltre bucket near full! WTF?! ...so, a good night apart from that, and picking up other peoples litter

Throw net

Thu, 2013-01-17 08:06

You can use throw nets if you have a licence.  Pretty sure the river is out of bounds though it's all on the fisheries website for anyone who cares to check

Yea, the whole swan and canning systems are closed to any type of netting regardless if you have a license, aswell as the coast up to scarbprough/yanchep, and all the way down to areound mandurah/busselton somewhere along the beach. They obviously thought that the license allowed them to use the net anywhere. They can use the net, but just not anywhere near perth basically.

Was talked about

Thu, 2013-01-17 10:01

This was talked about in another thread yesterday, http://fishwrecked.com/forum/hardyheads-0

I added some info from the fisheries but you can find the file on there site.

They were right about the limit for bait fish , there is no limit for a few species but this is about to change next month with a 9 litre bait fish limit being introduced with the new rule changes .

As others have said, no you cant use a cast net in the Swan / Canning / Moore rivers. If the young guy's had actually paid the $30 net license they would have recieved all the info about netting from fisheries ,

At least you questioned them about thier actions,  there is not much more you can do exept call fisheries , but we know they turn up to E-shed so often no fisho's there have a chance to do anything wrong

We all agree its illegal, but

We all agree its illegal, but if they only collected baitfish is there any harm in that. Not defending them just broardening the perspective.

 If everyone had that

Thu, 2013-01-17 17:17

If everyone had that attitude there would be no baitfish left, in turn would have significant effect on other larger species of fish and so on potentially wiping out a spiecies. How's that for perspective

Seriously?

Sat, 2013-01-19 14:20

No bait fish=no big fish= no fishing.

Nobody should feel guilty about reporting people that jeopardise our fisheries by breaking the law. It's not dobbing, it's ensuring your kids and grandchildren are going to enjoy fishing as much as you do.

Dunno whether its just genuine misunderstanding of whats written down or just blatant disregard of the rules...

See and hear about some pretty average behaviour down there sometimes. Saw three kids catch some shit fish today and they thought it would be a hoot to try and recast it on their light gear back into the drink. Hook was predictably ripped from its mouth, it flopped around on the deck as I walked passed then much to my amazement (or should I not be so naive?) they went to kick and stand on it before I lost it and told them to stop been fucking idiots. May only be an annoying by catch  but it doesn't warrant been tortured. 'Oh but its bleeding from the mouth' one of the genius' said. Fuck me!
