Early Model Yamaha 4 Stroke

Does anyone have any experience with early model Yamaha 4 strokes. In particular a 2000 model 90hp. I believe they ran carby's and from the bit of reading I've just done they were prone to fouling/gumming up. I've found alot of info on the Mercury motors (rebadged Yamahas) that had the same issue but not sure if they were running a different carby.

As per any carby model they
As per any carby model they can gum up a little - often the Carby float then gets stuck, run 95 fuel for cleaner running or alternatively add a bit of fuel additive to the tank every now and then rather than waiting until its a problem which is harder to fix/clean out.

Thanks for the info
Like most carbys so long as you take the right measures to prevent fouling you should be right. Just sounds like these might need abit more TLC than others. Otherwise from what I've read they should be a fairly relibale donk?

Had a carb
Had a carby gum up was difficult to start, idled rough but when steaming along ran fine...advice from marine doctor was to clean carby...tried fuel additive but did not work on this one....he came up and took it apart showed me the carbon build up....explained that as running on three cylinders the fourth could end up with a melted piston...got fixed and runs good now....apparently common if boat has sat for awhile which it did before I got it.
