I have to say, even though I have a Tekonsha P3 and Dexter elec/hyd actuator on my trailer which works fantastic-if I was setting up from new Id go straight to the Brake Commander
When someone else posted about it a month ago Id never heard of of it but looking into it the advantages are
1/ uses a standard brake master cylinder which you can buy anywhere (operated by an actuator)
2/ Built in wireless proportional brake controller (no wiring to the dash or tapping into brake light)
3/ Current draw is so low it runs off the brake light wiring of a standard installation (no 40 amp cable with Anderson plug at rear)
4/ No battery required for breakaway, or wiring for that matter. Works off a capacitor that takes a minute or so to charge when you take off.
5/ $1300 for everything
6/ best of all its Australian designed and built
so there is no wiring to be done on the tow vehicle, in effect you could hook your trailer to any vehicle, put the controller in the cab and drive off.
Assuming it proves reliable, hands down nothing is cheaper or simpler.
Elec/hyd unit will cost $700+ from US
P3 $200
Wiring in car $300-$500
And you still have a unit you cant fix if it shits itself.

ok, so you dont need an
ok, so you dont need an electric over hydraulic unit just electric drums.
The Tekonsha P3 is just the controller in the cab, the Brake Commander is the complete system.
Is the question just about the brake controller itself rather than the braking system on the trailer?
