Electric Motor Spot Lock
Submitted by timboon on Wed, 2024-07-24 20:24
Gday there Lads,
Its very enjoyable though difficult at times playing deckie to my two boys.
I'm thinking an elec motor with spot lock hold will help dad out putting the kids on the fish and also dad getting a line where he needs it....
5.6M Ali boat, any advice on the best way to go is appreciated!!

Question for you fellas, if you are running a 36v battery for the elec motor, how are you maintaining the charge while in use?

Charging
Gday mate, first up I would say to grab a battery that connects to your phone so you can monitor state of charge/remaining capacity/current draw ect.
I have an A/C charger mounted in the battery locker for shore charging and also a DC/DC charger in there (outboard charging the 36v battery)
have fished for around 5 -6 hours solid in pretty average conditions off the south coast using about 50% capacity drawing 40A a lot of the time so seems to hang in there a bit
That's a 100 A/HR lithium BLA battery, pretty chuffed with it so far !

I have the 72' 80lb x 24v on my 5.65m haines and the 55' 54lb x 12v on my 4.45 ally tinny. They are a game changer and last near on all day when fully chargd, even with full thrust spot lock. Only suggestion if going larger unit is ensuring your mount can handle the pressure, I've cracked mine once having wind against tide against swell and on 10 power spot lock - they do exert a lot of force with conditions.

Damage?
What are you guys averaging on the prices for these set-ups if you dont mind me asking? Im in the same boat with a 5.6 ally... is there much difference in prices from 24v to 36v and is it worth goin the extra power or can you get away with using the 12v to 24v set-ups. I dont know anything about these nifty things but i really do want one!!!

Hey mate,I had the 112lb 36v Minn kota ultra auto stow/deploy fitted 6 months ago to my 610 genesis. It was all done as it was getting built from new so probably paid a bit more for it but it's all sweet and looks nice and neat.
About $13k, and the bigger the better would be the go mate.
