Electric trailer winches
Well I have now decided to join the Cockburn power boat club again since all the recent break ins. I do a lot of early morning and night fishing and come to the conclusion that it will be cheaper to buy a electric winch than to replace a window every few months.
I didn't renew this year because of the no drive on drive off rule that they introduced. To me it was the principle of the matter, my boat weighs 2.8 tonnes and the trailer is designed to drive on and off, which is a lot quicker than winching. They came up with a story that the ramp is getting wrecked by prop wash and that it is a safety issue as well.
So I am interested in the experience that people have had good or bad and what people recommend in the way of electric trailer winches. I have been looking at the power winch and the super winch. It all get a bit confusing because they talk about single line pull, but I have noticed that it is different to the maximum boat weight. They also talk about the incline of the ramp.
So if anyone can enlighten me on the whole winch thing it will be much appreciated.

single line pull refers to
single line pull refers to 1:1 ratio in winching, so straight off the winch to the load. If you add a snatch/ pully block or numerous you will increase you winching effort dramatically, and reduce the work that the winch is doing.
So in a double line pull you will add a snatch block to where you hook the winch cable on the bow of the boat, then run the cable through it and back to the winch. The boat will move half the speed, but the mechanical advantage will be huge, taking a lot of load off the winch motor.
Hope this makes some sort of sense

the main problem i can see
the main problem i can see for you Frank is that most of the winches are "power out" .. ive used and will probably be getting anouth power winch .. i think its the 715 .. for your sized boat that should be good enough as long as you dont do beach launching like we do down here ..
if you always use a proper ramp you are really only winching up the last 1/3 of the trailer anyway.

Super Winch
I have the super winch and highly recommend it. My boats about 2.5 tonne and it pulls it up with ease. Have used it to pull my boat over the sand bar at Tandibiddi boat ramp on a low tide, was very handy. Had it for 7 years now and haven't had any problems.
