Waeco
They are about $100-$150 cheaper for each size model than the Engels. They also come on fairly good deals at big stores relatively often. I've got one and had no issues at all with it. I also prefer the poly casing as oppose to the metal of the Engels.

Recently bought an Engel
Recently bought an Engel MR40F Eclipse (one of the newer plastic types). Great fridge/freezer and for the same size was a lot cheaper than the metal case variety. Picked it up for $700 including the cover. Very happy with it so far.

Ive gt a 60L engel and I've recently bought a arb 38L about 6 months ago
both are excellent however the story ive been hearing is that an engel from the last 5 years is nt something
you would like to own. Engel has not been listening to its customer base apparently and plenty of newer ones have been having problems
just what I've heard from a few refrigeration mechanics ...my arb fridge is fantastic and is designed to hold cans perfectly either standing or laying down.
good luck mate

I have both
Birthday presents gone wrong!!! Family all knew I wanted/needed a portable Fridge and so did the Mrs. Family got me the Waeco, Mrs got the Engel.
So now I had 2 but used them both. One in the 4x4, other in the boat.
Use the boat mostly so IMO the best in there, and hands down the Engel. But nothing wrong with the Waeco, its just not as tough looking. Both 10yrs old and only a small fan issue with the Waeco.

Always thought Id buy an engel but went with a cfx65. One side I fill with piss, the other with food when campin with the mrs and kids. 40 engel was too small and the cfx has a smaller footprint than the big engels. The cfx is much improved to the earlier waecos. If I was buying a fridge for just me, Id prob get an engel 40, still a good fridge even if theyre not jap made anymore

Yep I have an engel and a waeco, in fact i had 2 waecos. never had anything but probs with them. I got a new waeco under warranty after a shitfight or 3 and sold it straight away. They wouldnt fix the other even though both bought at the same time, same shop, same amount of use and exact same problem. Would have sold it too but I cant bare the thought of someone else buying my lemon. It sits in an A/C house doing it real easy guarding the mrs chocolate stash on mains power. Good for f#^k all else!
Can only comment on the older engels, not the new ones. Mine is 8+ years old, my old man has one that is at least 25+ and still uses that as his primary freezer when on the road and both are awesome. F%^k waecos, will never buy another as long as my fat arse points to the ground. In fact I will make it my mission to slag them off at every opportunity given the hassles we got from them and the people that are up the chain in the company.
Mate has an arb fridge and it is the goods too from what I hear of his experiences.
Cheers

Engel
I've got a 40lt Engel, had it for 8yrs and has never missed a beat.
Been around OZ in the back of my Hilux, been on boats, been on 5 Ningaloo trips and has been used as the beer fridge at home. Barely been turned off since new and still looks/runs like the day I bought it.
A couple of mates have recently (last 12months) bought the plastic 'eclipse' versions and so far no complaints.

The other issue I have with mine is it doesn't like my cheap generator. I need to run it through a deep cell battery with a battery charger attached to the battery and plugged into the generator. But it will run fine on a Honda gennie?? I think they are very sensitive to the power output of the cheaper gennies.

Will it freeze things on this setting, or just keep things frozen? There's a big difference if you are away for any period of time.

I bought 2 techni ice fridges and they have been faultless to a T.
Got them on special for around $500 each and came with transformer for 240v and the padded cover.
Definitely recommend giving these a go first!

Not picking on your link by any means, though they look very similar to the EvaCool fridges. Every so often BCF and Rays have the 60l for $599.

I have a 35L waeco. The danfoss compressor on it runs perfectly, but almost everything else fell apart.
Had to replace the polyfuse with a bigger one because they put the wrong size in to begin with.
Had to replace the thermostat when that stopped working.
The plastic part that covers the buttons and LED display melted/warped in the back of the car so that I have to remove it to press the buttons. Then one of the buttons fell off (because the cover was removed) so now I have to shove a bit of metal in where the button used to be to lower the temperature setting.
I would probably go an Engel in the future.

One of my mates has had his engel since the early 90's and it still works perfectly. I bought a 60l engel 4 years ago and it works a treat. I once powered it with a Yamaha 1000 watt genie for a week straight with probs. I highly recommend an Engel.
Do the right thing and there will be fish tomorrow.

Gday, Its a bit like the
Gday,
Its a bit like the Holden/Ford, Nissan/Toyota or Diawa/Shimano debate........
Ive had both over the years and they are both good fridges, but you will hear good and bad stories about them both.
My current fridge is a Waeco CF60, Its probably close to 10 years old has lived in the back of my car in Central Aust for most of its life in extreme temperatures and only ever had one issue which was fixed under warranty and never missed a beat since.
I bought the Waeco based on size not price or reputation as the 60lt Waeco is taller and narrower than the Engle and fits on Tanami draws in the back of an 80 series where the Engel was too wide. It also fits in the back of an 80 series with one seat folded down where the Engel had to have both seats folded up.
Personally I would check the sizes , then price and brand.........
Cheers

Boys if you in the market for a fridge you can Engels at Battery Force Furnissdale (between Mandurah and Pinjarra) for a BARGAIN ie he has the 39ltr for $660. Thats $400 bucks cheaper than anywhere else.

Ive worked in the Leisure
Ive worked in the Leisure retail market for the past 8 years, fulltime, partime and more recently casual. I have sold all makes and models, all of which have thier pros and cons. However my prefernace is for the Engel for the following Resons;
-Realiability They just keep going.
- Thier a proper Fridge Frezer that uitlises a compressor. WAECO and Dometic will only cool below to a maxium of 60 degrees below ambient temperature. Its listed on the sideof boxes in very Small Print!
Elciipse is great we own one but the best seller by far is the Engel MT45 40l fridge- The metal one. appart from the metal case they also have a digital thermostat, it may not sound like much but it does come in handy.
