Esperance/Cape Arid advice

Hi,

Looking at heading down to Esperance/Cape Arid over Xmas and was wondering if anyone has had experience beach launching down there? I can see there are designated launches at Lucky Bay and Duke of New Orleans caravan park, but are there any other suitable places? Hoping to get a camping spot at Lucky Bay, but if it's packed out, then I was thinking maybe Thomas River or even heading out to Poison Creek/Jorndee Creek (if you can get a boat in there). My boat is 14ft high-sided wide-body dory with a 50hp tiller-steer 4-stroke, so weight is maybe around 400kg including the trailer.

Cheers,

Matt

Hi Matt,

Lucky will be packed out so keep your options open.
You can launch at Thomas but only right round the main beach (15-20kms) at a couple of secluded bays. Currently the actual river crossing at the start is quite deep (bonnet height) but should be ok at Xmas.
You can launch at Poison but Seal creek campsites are closed due to last years fires. I think you just beach camp there now.
Can't launch at Jorndee creek because there's no beach access.
Try also Membinup and Alexander bay because you can launch your size boat there no problems. Both will be chockas at Xmas but you can always find a beach camp if that's your thing.
Also consider Israelite Bay, great tinny fishing out there.

Hope this helps

Woody

Cheers mate, really appreciate the advice! Think i'll throw swags in instead of the tent to keep camp options open.
