Pretty limited palate here...

Fri, 2010-04-16 16:59

as I have done very little offshore fishing (therefore very little offshore eating!)

1. Flathead (must be out of the surf!)

2. Rainbow Trout

3. Herring

4. Shark

5. Mulla

I'm sure with time other species will be occupying some of those spots!

3. Rankin Cod

4. Yellowfin Tuna

5. Dhufish

I'm shocked herring are up there! Must be cooking them better than me!

Also, I am not a fan of Foxfish. I normally let them got because they are one of the slowest fish in the sea but I thought I would try one, one last time and although the meat was white it was mushy just like a wrasse and was horrible.

Herring

Fri, 2010-04-16 19:30

Only way to eat herring is straight out of the water and on to a hot plate,no scaling, gutting. The skin and scales lift off and the innards roll up in a little ball.
Just lift the meat straight off the frame, yummo!!

Gotta be fresh!

Sat, 2010-04-17 06:17

Unless you've gone on a multi-day trip and are catching fish species that are different to the ones you get in your local area, I'm very much against freezing anything. You're simply reducing it to the same quality as what you'd get at a market so why bother with the boat/fuel/fishing gear etc?

Although I have heard that some types of shark are better if frozen for a day or two?

Anyway...

1. Flathead

2. Dolphinfish

3. YFT/SBT/mako shark steaks

4. Baldies

5. KG's
