Exmouth April / May 2014

 Hi there folks!

After an amazing trip last year, i just couldn't resist a return trip to Exxy this year. Two of us made the mammoth journey from the UK this time, and once again it was well worth it. Our plan was to fish on lures for queenies, and bonefish (plus whatever else came along) on flies. In addition, we had a day booked with Brett of True Blue Bonefish.

To kick things off, we started with spending the days lure fishing and the nights after sharks.

Only a nurse shark, but it was a first night fish!

A few days in was our trip with Brett. The weather was wrong for bones, so we fished the gulf for whatever came along! Sadly our fly casting was useless, but becuase Brett is such an amazing guide, we both caught loads of trevally and queenies. A great day with a brilliant guide.

After a great day with Brett, we continued to explore behind the reef, and eventually found some bonefish! We only had spin gear that day, but planned a return 2 days later.

But it wasn't to be! As you well know, Exmouth had a spot of rain, and for 2 days we had to hide and drink beer! fishing was out of the question. When roads eventually started to open, the national park was closed, so bonefish were out of the question.

It wasn't just the roads that suffered. Because of the rain, the normally turquoise sea turned this colour!

So a change of plan was in order. We spent the rest of our time driving round trying to find clear water. It was tough, but we did catch a few fish! As it was hard, we tried some bait fishing, and caught a few school macks on balloons, and loads of spanglies on whatever we threw at them! And boy do they taste good! I won't bore you with too many words, but here's a few snaps of what we caught. I've fished a few spots around the world, and Exmouth is easily my favourite. What an amazing place. I'll be back!

We were in exy at the same time of year and also got rained in for a few days. I went over to Tantas in the hope of getting out for an  inshore fish after the floods and the water looked like coca cola.

You our did well to continue fishing and to find some clear water because it was dirty just about everywhere for days!

well done on the trip and as you said exmouth really is a wonderful place.
