Exmouth - April School holidays 2018

Gday guys, It is a bit sad that once again our annual family camping / fishing trip to Exmouth has come and gone... We had 12 nights in Exmouth, and experienced some of the best weather we have ever had. We got out in the boat 5 times - all in the bottom of the gulf. The other days were spent at Yardie Creek on the SUP, at Coral Bay, Bundegi, Sandy Bay, and just relaxing.. We had a look for prawns, but couldn’t find any - even though others were getting a few on different days, got a few Blue Manna crabs, and caught plenty of fish trolling. I dived most days, but a lot of the time couldn’t see the end of the spear, so ended up with only  1 Bluebone...

We spent a few dollars on a Oztrail Shade Max 4.8 gazebo, a Tropicool Evaporative Cooler for the tent, and an Otentik beach shelter - these were all worth the dollars to keep things comfortable!!

Also, the 3 reels that I use (a Saragossa 14000, a Calcutta 400, and a Sustain 5000) were all bought over the last few years secondhand from Fishwrecked members - so thank you to those members as they all perform faultlessly!!

Anyway, here are a few pics!

I am unsure of the facilities at Yardie - we don’t go into the Yardie Homestead camping area. There is basic camping right at Yardie Creek - but I think that requires bringing everything in (water, power, etc)

I had to launch like that 2 days in a row due to the tides and not willing to risk driving out into the flat - just about killed me!! At least I didn’t have to do it getting the boat out of the water too!

I had to check out the photos to see what the go was with the mud flaps - they have been on for so long that I forgot they were the big CAT flaps...

How did you go with the prawns? We had a look on one of the days but couldn’t find any - plenty of jellyfish though!! Here were a few other boats there who couldn’t find them either, but I heard others getting them on different days...

We launched there on all 5 days we went out in the boat, and only saw other cars on 2 of the days - not so good if you get stuck!

 The road into exmouth

Thu, 2018-05-03 19:58

The road into exmouth station is open again.  Gates are unlocked but you have to go and pay at the homestead you dont have to phone in advance. If everyone does the right thing it may be open all season but no doubt some idiots will wreck it, there is enough of them living in exmouth.  The prawns are there but expect crowds as bluewater tackle is trying to make lots of money selling throw nets with free lessons, Onya gatesy.

The Trout was the last fish

Sat, 2018-05-05 18:21

The Trout was the last fish we got - every time a reel went off I was hoping it was a Trout! All cod and the Trout were on lures. I speared 1 Bluebone, but the water was like soup. We even stayed a day longer than planned so I could dive the best tides, but it still wasn’t much better... next year!!
