check out the awesome sized spanish flag (bottom right) we got on our recent exmouth trip out at the murion islands.

he was a tricky one to catch - we had to get through all those red things first......

How Many?

Tue, 2010-03-09 13:23

Not a nice sight, there are 25 daily catch limits for reds for one angler.I thought the days of rape and pillage were over. One doesn't even see that many come in on charter boats with out getting negative comments these days.

yep

Thats not very much to the local pro's, they unload container after container each time they go out.  Also, they're not reds, looks like crimsons and saddletail but mainly crimsons = 4 per angler.  So from a charter, prob within the limits, but maxxed out. Reds are up the back corner.  I guess people wonder why there are cuts...

Looks to be roughly 62 fish

Tue, 2010-03-09 17:07

Looks to be roughly 62 fish there in total. Well i guess if there was 16-17 people on board the charter that would be within the limit???? Well if it was within the limit cant complain really. Nice catch. Just hope it was taken from multiple spots. The Reds would have been very yummy.

I believe most people actually go fishing to catch a feed, and not everyone is a catch and release advocate. Though it would be nice if the population of sport fisherman exceeded the population of fisherman. But i guess if it had been on a charter like some of the ones down here where they can have up to 30 people onboard at times they could have caught a hell of alot more fish.

Seen the pros unloading at Exmouth after 3 days out in the 300m. It was quite amazing the amount of fish they had. Took 4 guys a few hours to unload the fish. Some of the ruby snapper were hugh.

Tue, 2010-03-09 16:48

From my counting, there's 49 sea perch there, one more would have made it an even 50....... Should have tried a bit harder, I'm sure there would have been at least one more down there...........?????

Looking harder though!

Tue, 2010-03-09 17:36

Counting the Reds and the Flag that would actually make 52 from the same family (Lutjanus) just missing a Jack or two for a clean sweep! Legal limits or not, How much is too much.....

But if there were say 20-25

Tue, 2010-03-09 17:44

But if there were say 20-25 people onboard. That would only be 2-3 fish per fisher. Still less per fisher than some people take on their rec boats per fisher.

But i know what you saying because this catch came from one boat it is wrong. Or so many people believe.

yeah

Tue, 2010-03-09 20:06

if it was on a charter then there is nothing wrong with it. all these people saying shame shame. they would have been in their limits they would have been on a different spot compared to the day befor and charter operator doesnt hammer the same spot over and over. would have been a good day out. what happens if the people on that boat have onkly that one trip out for the year how would that compare to your catch over the entire year. does anyone know how many people on that boat.

Tue, 2010-03-09 22:38

that is a great catch for out on a charter. if you go out on a charter from metro you pay big $ and can only catch a couple of fish if your lucky.   . ... you go away on a holiday to go out on a charter to get some fish to take home, nothing wrong with that at all. yes it is a lot of fish taken but as said they wont hit the same area again for a while as it is their livelihood and why ruin it. i personally would have loved to be on a charter nailing fish like that

Wrassassin I am so with you

As a sportsfisho mostly (I do take home a nights feed if I get them!!!!) that make me sick. Whether within a limit or not just dont like pictures that make me feel like rape and pillage. I was hoping that that went out with the dark ages.

Not nice. And sad.

this is australia. and we do

Sat, 2010-03-13 10:01

this is australia. and we do have great fish stocks as long as the fisherman is responsible does not constantly take bag limits for the sake of it, and continues to move around visiting different locations there should be no problem. we must be very careful about our feelings when we talk about stocks, limits, etc. i like to bring home four to seven fish off of the reef. lots of people take more. we must be conservative, but not fanatical.. because the pollies will very quickly take away our right of having a go at a feed the moment they sense the oppotunity... the truth is we hav a well managed fish stocks, in comparison to other waters. i do agree however it does hurt deep down to see mass killing of beautiful cratures for food, sport, whatever. as a fishmonger ive seen alot of dead fish, and met both conservative and brutal fisherman.  we must never be fanatical, however critical and open to all sides. the truth then shines through the politcal rubbish... time for another beer! CATCH AND RELEASE FEELS GOOD IF YOU HAVENT TRIED IT. BUY A CAMERA!!!!
