Exmouth vs Carnarvon
Submitted by Faulkner Family on Sun, 2008-05-11 13:55
Ok so not many people have many good thing to say about fishing carnarvon so we might have to head to Exmouth.
What i would like to know is it reefy or safe fishing grounds plus are the boat ramps ok for a fibro 23foot boat as i know the fishing would be better so i have been told .Going in july this year

You will be hapier fishing
You will be hapier fishing Exmouth mate. No probs with the boat. Launch from the marina in any conditions/tides. Nothing to hit unless you head in to close. If you have a good chart plotter you will have no probs. Plenty of ground out the back of the islands or even around Exmouth reef.
If you head over to tantas than it could be a bit tricky. There is a big sandbar on the ramp at the moment so makes it hard to retrieve the boat on anything but high tide. If you do go over just follow a boat out, find the markers and once out there plenty of water to look around for fish.
July should be good weather but you want to start looking at accom as a few mates have tried around that time of year and there is either nothing or they want an arm and a leg for a unit.

exmouth v carn
Exmouth you can catch fish within three miles of the ramp - my biggest red was about that far out at around 10 kilo.
Carnarvon min round trip is 65 mile and the weather is unpredictable.
Thats the diff.

hey russ,we like yourself
hey russ,we like yourself fished shark bay for a few years then decided to try exmouth.man what a difference in distances to travel.caught my 1st mackie trolling thru the channel on the way out of tantas.the fishing is definately red hot at exmouth as you will no doubt find out.head to the islands and you will catch yourself a mixed bag of the premium quality fish on offer in w.a. i for one will not be travelling back to shark bay after fishing exmouth

russ, going of the size of
russ, going of the size of your boat you will more than likely have to launch at the marina most days.theres plenty of good fishing to be had inside the gulf, as for the islands , we where doing 80 plus n/ms aday, but the distance is worth it.

Exxy for sure!
Exxy for sure, there's some great fishing out of Carvs but Exmouth has so much more to offer imo.
Definately the Marina launch as mentioned is easy, Tanda's with a clean runway is fine just dont come in on low tide and yeh as Steve said.....a Plotter is a must!
All the best!
