Exmouth weather

Just came back from exmouth yesterday. Weather was very ordinary, the wind was relentless. Was wondering which are the best months to go up. Mate and i can only go up in august or september. Which of these 2 months are better, or were we just unlucky?

Any feedback would be awsome.

Cheers Fab

Start kitesurfing

Sun, 2013-09-15 11:53

My advice in those 2 months is start kite surfing. It's pretty much always windy those months although you can strike it lucky....rarely.

Best of luck for next time but in my experience stick with may or June for best results..

Im up here atm and yep, not

Sun, 2013-09-15 13:01

Im up here atm and yep, not much boatn weather, well for small boat owners like me that cant be arsed with the slop. A couple of hour window in the arvo some days when the wind swings from SE to SW (wind is light from the E then NE before the SW kicks in) is what Iv worked out (been at the beach those times lookin at the flat gulf sulking) with the normal local weather pattern so Im just waitn for that pattern to start happenin again now the front has passed below so I can atleast get a few quick seshes in. Seems to be the start of the windy time of the year. I had been watching the weather daily for a month prior to leaving and the same SE to SW pattern was occuring but on a lighter scale, there was plenty of 10kn days enabling a launch on one side or the other, I had to wait for my boss to come back from holis so we could take off, I wasnt expecting the weather to change much, and now Im here sookin cos I aint caught shit haha. Cant complain, town isnt busy and sunshine, boardies and beer sure beats cold arse Perth. The kids are havin fun, theres bugger all flies or mossies and perfect temp for camping. August is prob better then September I suppose wind wise

Try the bay of rest timmo.

Sun, 2013-09-15 14:59

Try the bay of rest timmo. .Walk the flats with a light spin stick can be fun. Or look for muddies. The marina usually produces small trevally and queenies near the boat pens also with bucktail jigs being a good option. Cast out to the furtherest pylon and let sink to the bottom then start a quick erratic retrieve. Cobia close in the new canals has produced also.

Yep, was at wapet yest, few

Yep, was at wapet yest, few jacks getn caught, drove down to the creeks in BOR, looks pretty fishy, had a few flicks, queenies meant to be abundant, trapped in pools at low tide, thered be a few good jacks in the mangroves too I reckon. Found a few mantas when I got out earlier in the week, no cobes on them tho, wind blew up so we trolled the shallows and into the marina up the canals a bit but to no avail, got a small gt off pebble beach, fish seem to be shy of lures up here, or Im just crap lol, been too many ffs moments, like snappping the tip off my sol rod so im just chillin, like my mrs keeps sayin, "you said its a family camping trip, not a Tim fishing trip", cheers for the info

 Caught a few nice eatuary

Sun, 2013-09-15 15:17

Caught a few nice eatuary cod in there trolling hardbody's up against the rocks and sometimes the smaller queenies and trevally go off. Allways the smelly barracouta in there as well. Fills in time when the winds up. Only fished them in august but reckon jacks must be a chance in the warmer months.

wplent of bream, trev's, jacks and queenies about in the Marina. One of the blokes who was up with us earlier in the year also landed a 50cm trout from our jetty!

Was quite funny, as he started yelling he'd caught a trout and in about 30 seconds everyone was fishing from the Jetty's!

Why not concentrate on the gulf with glass offs most afternoons while blowing its head off on the other side.

August for us.

Sun, 2013-09-15 19:04

we've always done best weather wise in August. Up here now and the southerlies have well and truely kicked in. Even up in Broome end of August southerlies had started coming in. June July blowing easterlies and waters too cold, April we found for us is hit and miss. Had a month here last august and rarely had a day we couldn't get out. Would've been up here in August this year if not for work commitments.

Left Ex last week, each avo around 2ish the gulf was glassing off as the wind turned SSW-SW, had some great diving on the neaps in the Gulf and 2-4kg long tails trolling 1-2miles out from Bundegi on tiny minnows, couldnt get out of the west side once though and pushing into lighthouse bay was just a bad idea one day!
