Cheaper

Its a few dollars cheaper to stick a new battery in but most just buy a new one that way there is no mucking about and waiting for it to return from getting the new battery fitted.

Depends

Depends on the brand.

I purchased a Pains Wessex 406 with a "free" battery replacement deal.

When the battery expired I had to pay $75 in various courier fees to send it to an agent in Victoria before it was returned 6 weeks later with the new battery fitted.

if it's a GME

 Hi Paul

 Thank you for your email.

We do have an exchange programme where you return your expired beacon to us and we can exchange it for another one for $159 inc GST or you can now upgrade to the GPS equipped model MT406G for $219 inc GST. Both are covered for 12 months warranty and 6 year battery life.

You then contact AMSA to deregister your old beacon and register your new one in its place.

 Kind regards,

Chris Chadwick

Operations Manager WA

I am pretty sure it is just a matter of driving to GME in Canning Vale, and the epirb is exchanged.

My McMurdo epirb recently

My McMurdo epirb recently expired and I went down the path of having the battery replaced by the dealer. For $20 less I could buy a new equivalent non GPS GME unit with a 6+6 battery replacement deal.Decided at the time to upgrade to the GPS version as well.

So the McMurdo was decommissioned and a GME now graces the boat.

Yep I had a similar price

Yep I had a similar price from AMI. But factoring the 90min return drive there, then repeating it a couple of days later to pick it up, I considered a GME at $249 a better deal.
